38 Ábrahám Imre Summary A short historical geography of 14—17th century Nyúl The first part of the paper supplements the lines about Nyúl in György Györffy’s Historical geography of Hungary in the age of the Árpáds with contributions in the fields of geography and local history. It deals with the alternative services of a royal wineproducing village, ie. rabbiting. The study examines the life of the agricultural settlement and the way it developed into a village and the partial estate of Bakonybél Abbey due to royal donation. The author also sketches the topography based on the fields that later belonged to the village. The paper compiles an outlined historical geography along the 14—17th centuries on the basis of archival and literary sources. The following aspects are also included within this part: certain natural-economic changes, the alteration of the owners of the village and the changing circumstances enhancing wine-production. It approaches the vicissitudes of history during the Ottoman rule menacing the life of the divided village with onomastic and statistical analysis of the tithe-lists of the chapter of Győr and other sources.
