46 GASP, German) localities (e.g. Voigstedt, Weimar— Ehringsdorf, Burgtonna, etc.), and he published several papers on bird faunas from different localities of Hungary and foreign countries (Romania, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Austria). His monographic review papers on some groups of Pliocene and Quaternary birds are also remarkable. He summarized the most important results of his researches in 1979 in a book ("A magyarországi pleisztocén tagolása gerinces faunák alapján"), its English version was published in 1986 under the title "Pleistocene Vertebrate Faunas of Hungary"). Without any doubt sc, M. these two books are his most prominent and most frequently cited works. Dénes JÁNOSSY was among the greatest specialists of Quaternary and late Tertiary micromammals and birds in the second half of the 20 rh century. He w T as a tireless researcher both at the writing-desk and in the field. He collected fossil vertebrates from more than 50 localities and described more than 65 new taxa.
