78 JAITLY, A. K, lets on last (third) protoconch volution, but only in half whorl length. Post-protoconch whorls have spiral ornament, consisting of threads, visible from third whorl of protoconch; their parallel running periodically changes in accordance with growth of spines. Growth-lines delicate. Remarks — The figured specimen (Plate I: 28—30) corresponds to the descriptions and figures given in the synonymy, especially to the specimen displayed in PlETTE (1891) PI. 92, Fig. 4., having no belt along median keel without spiral lines. The other specimen possesses the & S/.ABÓJ. smooth belts above and below the median keel. HEBERT & DESLONGCHAMPS (1860) applied two different names in the text {Spinigera compressa D'ORB.) and in the explanations to Plate VI [Spinigera semicarinata (GOLDFUSS)], respectively. The latter name refers to MÜNSTER' s Lower Jurassic species (in GOLDFUSS 1841-44). Distribution in Kachchh — Gadhada Formation (Upper Callovian part) of Astarte Hill, South from Gadhada, Mouwana Dome; Chari Formation (upper part), Callovian, Ler. Genus Pietteia COSSMANN, 1904 Pietteia sadharaensis n. sp. (Plate I: 21-24) Holotype — BHU2001I 28 (Plate 1: 23-24) Type locality — Sadhara, Pachcham Island, Kachchh, State Gujarat, India. Type strata — Gora Doongar Yellow Flagstone Member (Bathonian). Species name — From the name of the type locality 7 . Diagnosis — Rather slender, small—medium sized shell in Pietteia; whorls strongly convex; strong, suture to suture ribs on teleoconch whorls (10—11 on penultimate whorl); these ribs disappear from last whorl but strong keel develops and ramp changes into concave at same time; keel densely nodosed near last (enlarged) peristome; adaxial spine of peristome reaches upper suture of penultimate whorl; spiral threads and cords alternating on whorls and base. Material — Seven specimens, more or less damaged. Measurements H HL HP D WP A A AL BHU20GTI42 Plate I: 21-22 *16.5 *10.0 *7.0 *7.0 *6.0 28° BHU2001I28 Plate I: 23-24 *17.5 *13.0 *9.0 *8.5 *5.5 31° Description — Small-medium sized, rather slender species of Pietteia. Shell consists of about five post-protoconch whorls; apical part lacking. Whorls convex, sparse spiral threads and strong, opisthocline, suture-to-suture costae (11—12 max./whorl) ornament them. Ribs lacking from last whorl, threads marked, cord-like below carina (and on base) but almost lacking from ramp on last whorl. Median (peripheral) carina develops from penultimate whorl. Carina becomes strong and sharp on last whorl, then corrugated by nodulae near peristome. Some weak collabral ribs may appear irregularly on basal surface below nodosed carina part. From penultimate whorl, subsutural ramp gradually changes into convex, just like outermost, narrow belt of base. Second carina not developed at edge of base, only weak angulation indicates its usual place. Peristome not preserved, fragments indicate presence of usual peristome-extension, axial and adapical digitation. Uppermost part of extended outer Up reaches upper suture of penultimate whorl. Remarks — The specimens are comparable to P. phillipsi D'ORBIGNY, on the slender spire of similar spire angle. However, the adult height in D'ORBIGNY's species is about double than in Pietteia sadharaensis n. sp., and the nodosity 7 of the carina near the peristome is lacking from P. phillipsi. Pietteia sadharaensis n. sp. specimens resemble also Pterocera nodulosa HEBERT & DESLONGCHAMPS, 1860 in the presence of near peristome nodulae on the midwhorl carina but the latter species has less turriculate sheU (spire angle 38—40°) and double of adult height of Pietteia sadharaensis n. sp. COX (1965) pubUshed some comparable Pietteia species from East Africa; P. stockleyi has also slender shell but its spiral angle is even narrower (20°) than that of Pietteia sadharaensis n. sp. P. stockleyi has much smaUer adult size (7—9 mm) and much weaker ribs on the whorls than P. sadharaensis n. sp. Pietteia dusseensis is similar in having also nodules on the last whorl keel, but the adult height is only about half of height in P. sadharaensis n. sp., and the ribs are weaker and node-Uke. Distribution in Kachchh — Chari Formation (Lower CaUovian), Kamaghuna section, Jhura Dome; Gora Doongar Yellow Flagstone Member (Bathonian), Sadhara, Pachcham Island and Upper Chari Formation (POxfordian) of Jhura viUage section, Jhura Dome. Pietteia sp. (Plate I: 25-27) Material — One inner mould specimen with small shell fragments. Measurements II HL HP D WP AA AL BHU2001I59 Plate 1: 25-27 *10.50 *6.0 *5.0 7.5 *4.5 - 41°
