species and several colonial corals were collected in a small artificial trench, on the plough-land. The clayey, mollusc bearing sand yielded several micromollusc species. The diverse coral fauna was studied by HEGEDŰS (1970; 7 species) and OOSTERBAAN (1990; 10 species). According to the latter author a mixture of different reworked faunas was found here but he had collected his material only from the surface of the agricultural area. Recendy, two amateur fossil collectors (Tamás NÉMETH, Tibor BERTA) have performed very intensive collecting field works during 2003 and 2004 (BERTA & NÉMETH 2004). With the permission of the landowner, they have dug a 80 cm deep trench on the agricultural area (Bánd, Petőfi street 51, about 200 m SE from die church) and have washed about 2 m 3 sediments from the coral-bearing clays. Until now, they have identified 113 Gastropoda, 1 Scaphopoda and 19 Bivalvia species, as well as 12 coral species and some Brachiopoda, Cirripedia, Echinoidea, Pisces, Litinothamnium, Bryozoa and Decapoda (BERTA & NÉMETH 2004). The well-preserved Polyplacophora material was offered for me to make a study and description. The 153 specimens yielded the following species: lepidopleurus (I.xpidopleurus) cajetanus (POLI, 1791) (14 head, 3 intermediate and 80 tail valves); lepidochitona sp. (2 intermediate valves); Chiton corallinus (RlSSO, 1826) (1 intermediate valve); Chiton (Rlyssoplax) olivaceus SPENGLER, 1797 (1 tail valve); Acanthochitona faluniensis (ROCHEBRUNE, 1883) (2 head and 9 intermediate valves); Cryptoplax weinlandi SULC, 1934 (3 head, 28 intermediate and 9 tail valves); Cryptoplax margitae DULAI, 2001 (1 intermediate valve). The second locality is situated east of the village Devecser, atTik-hegy (Figure 1). CSEPREGHY-MEZNERICS (1958) listed 29 Gastropoda, 8 Bivalvia and 3 Scaphopoda species from Tik-hegy without more accurate localization of the fauna, which was picked up only from the surface of the plough-land. The same amateur collectors have collected very rich fauna from several artificial trenches during 2004 and 2005 (NÉMETH 2005). The Lower Badenian yellow, calcareous sand yielded much more diverse mollusc fauna, than it was earlier mentioned by CSEPREGHY-MEZNERICS (1958). Until now, the collectors have identified 163 Gastropoda, 48 Bivalvia and 2 Scaphopoda species; some corals, polyplacophorans and otoliths were also found. The very rare and not so well preserved chiton fauna (5 specimens) contains only two species: Ischnochiton rissoi (PAYRADEAU, 1826) (1 tail valve) Cryptoplax weinlandi SULC, 1934 (2 intermediate and 2 tail valves). Though the studied chitons originate from T. NÉMETH's and T. BERTA's private collections but a significant part of their material has been deposited in the regional Bakony Natural History Museum, Zirc. Some representative specimens were also presented to the Hungarian Natural Llistory Museum, Budapest.
