specimen figured by Rasmussen (1961, pi. 32, fig. 3.) in the presence of low interradial projections and in the lack of external ornamentation; from the specimens figured by Zitt (1974, pi. 5, figs. 1-12) in the presence of a clear dorsal cavity and in the lack of the external ornamentation. The specimens figured by Arendt (1974, pl. V, fig. 8, pl. VI, figs. 3-6, 14,16) as P. holopiformis are morphologically very similar to our specimens but their cup axis is much more oblique. We were able to recognize two distinct morphotypes: one is stout and low while the other is higher and more slender. Nevertheless they are assumed to fall within the range of the great specific variability of P holopiformis. Specimens: 18 cups and two half-cups labelled as NS 6/454-458. Occurrence: the same as for the genus. Suborder EUDESICPJNINA MANNI et NICOSIA, 1990 Family SCLEROCRINIDAE JAEKEL, 1918 Genus Gammarocrinites QUENSTEDT, 1857 Type species: Eugeniacrinus compressus GOLDFUSS, 1829 Diagnosis: Crinoids with five RR, with or without interradial projections. RR stout with very large and wide outwards sloping radial facet. Ventral cavity of variable size. Columnals cylindrical. Cup axis commonly sloping. Remarks: In our samples at least four different morphotypes belonging to this genus are present. Nevertheless in most cases the specific identification has not been attempted as more material, mainly brachials, are awaited. Several species of this genus are known from the Oxfordian to Valanginian deposits, widespread all over Europe. Apart from the new species, quite good agreement was found with the unnamed Tithonian forms present in Southern Poland. The genus is known to show a clear evolutionary trend passing from the slender and elegant Jurassic forms to the bulky Neocomian ones; these observations are consistent with the results of this study. Gammarocrinites bakonicus sp. n. Pl. I, Figs. 3-4; Text-fig. 4 Holotype: NS 6/460. Paratypes: NS 6/459 a and 461 a,b. Other material: three cups labelled as NS 6/ 459 b, 462-463. Ethymology: named after the Bakony Mts. Type level: Lower Tithonian
