Family TEREBRATELLIDAE Subfamily Terebratellinae Genus Terebratella d'Orbigny, 1847 "Terebratella" astieriana d'Orbigny, 1847 (Plate IV: 18-21) 1847. Terebratella Astieriana d'Orb., 1847 - d'ORBIGNY, p. 116, pl. 516, Figs. 6-12 Material : 1 complete specimen and 3 pedicle valves from the Bocskor-hegy. Dimensions (mm): L13. 7 W12.3 T 14. 6 Description: The outline of the biconvex shell is rounded with a triangular posterior part. Maximum width and maximum thickness are at the mid-line of the shell. The umbo is straight with a hypothyrid to mesothyrid foramen. The beak-ridges are well-marked, long. The broad interarea is triangular. From the umbo of the pedicle valve a widening sulcus develops with a ridge along both sides set at an angle of 20°. There is a median fold on the brachial valve. The lateral comissure is arched, the anterior one is gently and broadly sulcate. The costae, originating from the umbo, are low, wide and rounded. They are increasing in number towards the anterior margin by bifurcation and intercalation. The growth lines are well-marked; they do not intersect the costae. Remarks : It agrees with d'ORBIGNY's species. Due to the poor preservation, position of the foramen and height of the interarea can not be observed. It differs from Terebratella jaccardi Loriol in having a nearly straight umbo and a less inflated pedicle valve. As I have not found any revision of d'ORBIGNY's genus Terebratella in the available literature, here I use " Terebratella" in a wider sense. Distribution: Aptian of HauteMarne, Yonne, Basses-Alpes (France). PALAEOBIOGEOGRAPHY The distribution of the forms described above shows the following pattern: 10 species from the 12 that have been described previously are characteristic for the Jura region. Some of them also appear in the Caucasus, Crimea and the Kopet Dag. There are two species in the material which also occur in the boreal province: Belo thyris pseudojurensis and Belbekella gibbsiana. Praelongithyris praelongiforma is confined to the boreal province. The genus Praelongithyris , however which has a boreal origin, can be found from England as far as the Caucasus, from the Neocomian up to the Aptian.
