In the Carpathian Basin, on the basis of the evolutionary stages of the Late Neogene Cricetidae the following biozones can be established: - Democricetodon gaillardi Zone (MN 9) - Neocricetodon schaubi-fahlbuschi Zone (MN 10-11) - Karstocricetus Zone (MN 12) - Cricetus kormosi Zone (MN 13) - Kowalskia Zone (MN 14-15) The results described above make possible a more detailed local and regional stratigraphic correlation.
