Among the fossil mouse-eared bats described by KORMOS (1934) from Villány, Early Pleisto-* cene, M. wüsti is much greater, stelnlngeri Is rather similar but with stronger lower canine and its small premolars are greater in cross section. The latter are free and loosely set. In M. schaubl the available characters are very similar (e.g. the compression of P3) to those of M. kretzoll , however, Its measurements are proportionately greater, the cross-section of lower canine is lengthened, the trigonids and talonids of Mj and M 2 are similarly wide and not as in M. kretzoll sp.n. where the trigonids are narrower than talonids. The Upper Pleistocene M. mlxnltzensls is younger and also smaller than the present animal. Acknowledgements. Many thanks are due to Dr. Miklós KRETZOI for ceding his study material and manuscript on bats of Solymár Cave. I express my thanks to Dr. Dénes JÁNOSSY for his submitting the type specimens for study as well as the other materials deposited in the Palaeontological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. I thank to Dr. András DEMETER for carrying out the discriminant analysis in this study. REFERENCES HELLER, F.
