a fissure of 1-2 meters in its diameter. The sporadic paleontological finds (list see p. ) prove a not well defined level of Middle Pleistocene. Similarly scarce remains yielded the Loc. 5. lying in the Northern edge of the part of the Quarry Nr. X. The list of the remains originating from the fissure like (?) formation of 20 meters depth and 4-5 meters in its diameter (see p. ) speak for a partial Lower Pleistocene (Betfia-Phase) age. Loc. 6. Osztramos This locality may be considered also as a sporadic one. It led in 15 meters distance East from Loc. 3. and represented only a small cavity of lxl meters . The presence of some Middle Pleistocene species (see p. ) may refer to an older phase of this period. Loc. 7. Osztramos The very important locality lies on the West side of the mining area Nr. XII. and was originally a "classical" tectonical fissure to 30 meters vertically and to the diameter of its 1-2 meters. The upper part of the sediment was more dark-red the lower one more yellowish, both intercalated by calcite beds . The very rich animal assemblage can be characterised as atypical transitional fauna between the Pliocene and Pleistocene, (Lower Villafranchian, Lower Villanyian), with the unique joint occurrence of small and large mammals and the hitherto known oldest remains of lemmings in Europe (see JÁNOSSY, 1973 and p. in this paper). Loc. 8. Osztramos On the bottom of the north-eastern face of the mining area Nr. XII. , about two hundred meters distant from Loc. 2, was opened a cave by blasting. The about a hundred meters long horizontal cave laid on a little lower level, than the mining area, at about 305 m. O.D. and was rich in stalagmite formations. It was found at the end of the cave on the surface of the floor a rich vertebrate material (faunal list see p. in this paper). According to JÁNOSSY (1972) the occurrence of the rich remains of two contemporaneously living porcupine species (Hystrix) is worthy to note. The composition of the fauna near that of Loc. 2 proves a late Lower Pleistocene, "Lower Betfian" age. The locality had been destroyed by quarrying during the same year in which it was discovered (1972). Loc. 9. Osztramos In this southern face of the mining area Nr. IX., about 4-8 meters overlaying the recent quarry surface (at about 320 m O.D.) is situated a large cave system which extends in its length horizontally 200 meters or more. These
