at the pole. Diameter about 6 mm. The whorls increase regularly. There are 4-5 whorls, the rate of increase of whorling is not very high, the last whorl is only about twice as high as the preceding whorl. The septa are thin, and slightly curved throughout. The axial section is characterized by the thick marginal cord and the thick spiral lamina. <r Occurence: Operculina patalensis is observed from the nummulitic chalky limestone of Gabal El Shaghab section. Distribution: This species was described by Davies from the middle of the Khairabad limestone to the top of the Patala Shales. Age: Lower Ypresian. Operculina sub sal sa DAVIES 1937 (pl. 1, figs. 10, 11) 1937 Operculina subsalsa DAVIES, p. 37, pi. 5, figs. 2, 4, 8-9. Test complanate, much compressed, very thin, composed of 3 coils, the last with 16-18 chambers. Septa usually starting from the proximal end, in a nearly straight radial line and keeping so far about one third the lenghth, then gently recurved backwards towards the periphery, they are externally visible over much greater portion, of the spire. The chambers are three to four times as long as wide; the central area of the test umbonate. Occurence: This species appears in the Upper nummulitic limestone of the Thebes Formation in Gabal El Shaghab. Distribution: Davies described this species from the middle of the Khairabad limestone to the middle beds of the Patala Shales (Salt Range), India. Operculina subammonea DONCIEUX, 1926 (pl. 1, fig. 18) 1926 Operculina subammonea DONCIEUX, p. 57, fig. 21. 1929 Operculina subammonea DONCIEUX, - Llueca, p. 246, fig. 49« Test rounded, compressed, periphery subacute; there are 3-i- whorls the number of chambers in the last whorl is 13. The chambers are rapidly Increasing in height as added. Septa distinct limbate, radial, slightly curved backward at the periphery. The chamber walls are marked externally by costae and coarse granules, there Is a small cluster of granules at the pole of the test. Occurence: This species is found in the upper nummulitic limestone of Gabal Shaghab. Distribution: This species was described by DONCIEUX from the Lower Lutetian of Aude and Hérault, France. LLUECA recorded O. subammonea from the Ypresian of Spain. Age: Ypresian.
