Location of the section A good section of the Esna Shale is exposed in the Taramsa section. The Taramsa section* is a conspicuous outcrop about 47 m. high, situated 10 Kilometer south the village of Taramsa on the left side of the Nile, facing Qena, upper Egypt.(Text. fig. 1.) In fact, in the Nile Valley, there is only two localities was studied: The Thebes section, opposit Luxor, owing to its archeology (DELANOUE, 1868; ZITTEL, 1883; CUVILLIER, 1930; NAKKADY, 1951; 1958 ^The people of the village call this section "El Kola", because they take the Shale from there and use it in the manufacture of pots and jars, using for cooling water.
