Dr. Nagy I. Zoltán - Dr. Ravasz Csaba szerk.: Fragmenta Mineralogica Et Palaentologica 1. 1969. (Budapest, 1969)
the collections of the Hung. Nat. Hist. Museum were demaged very heavily during a fire in 1956 and now we exactly know, that more than half of the specimens of the meteorite-collection was destroyed . Besides casting an inner account, we should like to inform the experts working outside the Museum about the condition of our collection, with this paper. The edition of the catalogue was made possible by the support of the leaders of the Museum, when they have started the Fragmenta Mineralogica et Paleontologica as a new periodical publication. After the fire the cleaning, unrusting (by electrolysis bath), conservation, determination, and inventorizing of the rescued specimens were carried out by director László Tokody and Mária Rapszky née Hanák chemist, from 1959 to 1962. Compiling present catalogue, we newly weighed, measured all the specimens, determined their shape besides the collecting the encyclopedical data. Finally we listed the data concerning to the condition and methods of preparation of the pieces. In this work Vera Jedlovszky née Marián was a great help to me and I want to express her my thanks for her kind assistance. The revisional and cataloguing work had simultaneously pointed out the direction of the following tasks in the collection. We separated the specimens having disputable data (locality, classification etc.) namely demanding detailed investigations. A solution must be found for the cleaning of the pieces prepared with unsuitable material or method, their correct conservation, corrosion-protection. We intend to write and publish the catalogue of meteorite collections kept - outside the Museum - by certain Institutes in Hungary. Therefore we ask everybody having ideas both criticizing and helping to support us by letting us know about their remarks, opinions, and advices.
