I. TANULMÁNYOK - Szabó Dóra Andrea: Pulszky Ferenc alakja a Nemzeti Múzeumban és tudományos, kulturális berkekben - az élclapok tükrében

and from then on he became a keen ambassador of the museum. Being a member to the Hungarian parliament, as well, with his passionate attitude and animated speeches he was a good target for the press to be criticized and made fun of. Many shorter and longer publications were written about Pulszky's life and work but nobody tried to draw a picture of him as an actor of public life, as reflected in the mirror of satirical journals. In my research I looked for appearances of Pulszky's name and caricatures in two different Hungarian satirical journals, Borsszem Jankó and Üstökös between 1868 and 1880. The aim was to find interesting stories and caricatures that could be related with Pulszky's work in the cultural and museum area. Pulszky's versatile work in different associations, cultural and political life - not to mention his characteristic nose - made him a popular and frequent character in the satirical journals. Many of the stories and caricatures are based on real events and from these we can draw conclusions about Pulszky's image in the eye of the public. The number of the appearances show that he was an important cultural and political figure and his acts were widely known. His person and acts could always serve as a base for funny stories and caricatures for the satirical journals that wanted to show a crooked image of Hungarian reality. 89
