former Cuman type battle maces. The star-shape maces remained as weapons in the hands of Jász and Cuman shepherds, later became the sign and ornament of young men. Their use survived until the end of the 1920s, and then went out of fashion for good. The last document of the role of the mace is a photo taken of the Kállay cabinet on 10th March 1942. (Fig. 11.) Here, the ministers dressed in traditional Hungarian attire wear sabres except Count Miklós Kállay prime minister (09.03.1942-22.03.1944), who holds a mace in his left hand. 110
