The Exhibition 'Hope of Freedom - 1956' Summary Upon the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Hungary, the Hungarian National Museum, in collaboration with the Hungarian News Agency, produced a twenty-panel exhibition in Spring 2006; which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution throughout the world at Hungarian embassies and cultural institutes. The represented events aimed to testify that the revolution was more than just a few days of street rioting; it intended to introduce reform acts, lead to victory with the support of the majority of the society, and failed because of foreign aggression. The exhibition ends with some pictures of the political changes of 1989, implying that the reform aspirations of the revolution were only then realized. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs produced the panel-exhibition in ten languages (English, French, Polish, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Slovakian) and in 104 copies, and displayed it in sixty countries. A booklet for the panels were also published in the above languages. The article gives the texts and the list of objects reproduced in the panels. 268
