Two Justus l ipsius Composite Volumes in the Book Collection of the Military History Museum Summary The author introduces two composite volumes belonging to the Military History Museum's Book Collection, with reference to the Zsuzsanna Lorántffy exhibition of the Rákóczi Museum in Sárospatak, where one of the books was on display. The two volumes contain works of the well-known early modern age expert, a state theoretics and philosophy classic, Justus Lipsius (Joost Lips) (1547-1606), written during his professorship in Leuven, along with commentaries by theologian and preacher Jacobus Lydius (1610-1679) of Dordrecht. These writings of Lydius were edited and published by Salomon van Til (1643-1713), theologian professor in Dordrecht and Lcyden. The study deals with the acquisition of the volumes; the inventory and bibliographical data; the characteristics of the copies: binding, paper, watermarks, set of types; possessors and handwritten notes; references to the authors and the contributors. The study provides a detailed bibliographical description of the two composite volumes on the one hand, and briefly treats the reception of the authors and their works in Hungary on the other hand, publishing data referring to the one-time owners and all that is known about the books' 'consumer environment'. The particular interest of the two composite volumes lies in the fact that both were acquired from Calvinist surroundings: the sometime students of Sárospatak and Debrecen, two ancient and reputable schools, used them.
