POLHEMUS & RUTTER ( 1997) reported the apparently successful introduction of an Asian micronectid Synaptonecta issa (DISTANT, 1910) in Florida. Recently NlESER & CHEN (2006) described two new genera, Monogobia and Synaptogobia from the Amazon basin. Consequently there are at present four genera of Micronectidae known from the New World. The genus Tenagobia BERG ROTH, 1899 was last revised by NlESER (1977) who recognized 27 valid species. Since then POLHEMUS & NlESER (1997) described one new species, and BACHMANN (1979) described one new subspecies. The genus is essentially restricted to South America with only two species reaching into Central America (NlESER 1977). There are seven subgenera, which can be identified by the following key, adapted from NlESER (1977). Measurements are in mm, based on five specimens of each sex, presented as the range with the mean in italics and with the measurements of the holotype between {}. KEY TO THE SUBGENERA OF TENAGOBIA Posterior margin of eyes sinuate; pronotum truncate at base of hemielytra and inner postocular space about 5 times as long as an eye facet (Fig. 4) Baliagobia NlESER, 1977 Posterior margin of eyes not sinuate; pronotum not truncate at base of hemielytra or if truncate, inner postocular space at most 3.5 times as long as an eye facet 2 Pronotum truncate at base of hemielytra; inner postocular space 2.5 times as long as an eye facet or less (Fig. 1) and the sutures of vertex posteriorly of eyes distinctly converging 3 Pronotum not truncate at base of hemielytra; if inner postocular space 2.5 times as long as an eye facet or less, then the sutures of vertex posteriorly of eyes more or less diverging 4 Body length 1.8-2.3 mm; left membranal suture absent; pala with 14-17 bristles in lower and 11-17 setae in inner row (Fig. 5) Tenagobia BERGROTH, 1899
