Oxythrips inopinatus on mugo pine Oxythrips inopinatus PRIESNER, 1923 was described on the basis of a single female collected by sweeping at Pinzgau (Salzburg) in the Alps at 2000 m a.s.l. (PRIESNER 1928). A further specimen was collected by sweeping undergrowth by PELIKÁN (1947) in a bog at Rejviz in the Jesenik Mts (Czech Republic). DYADECHKO (1964) recorded it from Georgia and Moldavia. These publications have not mentioned its host plant. Six females were collected by K. ORBÁN in flowering male cones of Pinus mugo in the South Carpathians, in the Retezat Mts at Mt. Lolaia (2100 m a.s.l.) on 21.VII.2001. Presumably its larvae could develop in the cones of Pinus mugo.
