Fig. 1. Distribution of the micropyles on the eggs KRISTIN & KANUCH (2007) give the following measurements on the S. pedo eggs (n = 4): 11.9 mm long, 3.8 mm wide and weighting 41 mg. Based on our observation, the freshly laid eggs never had a width above 3 mm, except for eggs having already started to develop (previous observation). SÄNGER & HELFERT (2004) made observations on 74 S. pedo eggs originating from 2 females. Micropyles were missing in 27% of all eggs. We found a lack of micropyles in 53% of the eggs (n = 151). This characteristic was found only in S. pedo. Furthermore, according to our observation, there are great individual differences among S. pedo clones in the aspect of the lack of micropyles in the eggs. This correlates to ATCHLEY (1977) stating that parthenogenic species show a higher variability than their sexual congeneric species in different kind of features. Morphometric characteristics of the eggs of S. c. campbelli and S. rammei are first provided here. * Acknowledgements - We would like to thank for the financial help to IKR CC (Bábolna), and to Georgikon Foundation (Keszthely), to support our collecting trip to the Balkans.
