Fig. 1. Distribution of the micropyles on the eggs KRISTIN & KANUCH (2007) give the following measurements on the S. pedo eggs (n = 4): 11.9 mm long, 3.8 mm wide and weighting 41 mg. Based on our observation, the freshly laid eggs never had a width above 3 mm, except for eggs having already started to develop (previous observation). SÄNGER & HELFERT (2004) made observations on 74 S. pedo eggs origi­nating from 2 females. Micropyles were missing in 27% of all eggs. We found a lack of micropyles in 53% of the eggs (n = 151). This characteristic was found only in S. pedo. Furthermore, according to our observation, there are great individual dif­ferences among S. pedo clones in the aspect of the lack of micropyles in the eggs. This correlates to ATCHLEY (1977) stating that parthenogenic species show a higher variability than their sexual congeneric species in different kind of features.
