Aeshna cyanea (MÜLLER, 1764) - The species has previously only been known from the Lurë lakes in Albania (DUMONT et al. 1993). During this study it was caught only at the same locality in Central Albania and at a same type of habitat in the Prokletije Mts, and so this widespread European species seems to be restricted to higher altitudes in the Southern Balkans. Caliaeschna microstigma (SCHNEIDER, 1845) - The species was found throughout the country in mountain brooks, where it is frequently the only species of dragonfly present. Onychogomphus forcipatus forcipatus (LINNAEUS, 1758) - The species was often found in medium-sized water bodies and was several times found to occur in lakes with cold water. Cordulegaster bidentata SÉLYS-LONGCHAMPS, 1854 - The female caught on 11 October 2005 at the Varoshit Stream represents an exceptionally late date. Cordulia aenea (LINNAEUS, 1758) - The species was considered to be absent from the Balkans by ASKEW (1988). The records published by DUMONT et al. ( 1993) and those presented in this paper suggest that it is restricted to alpine lakes in Albania, as is Aeshna cyanea. Somatochlora meridionalis NIELSEN, 1935 - This Mediterranean species is known from most of the countries in Southeast Europe, but has thus far not been recorded from Albania (see also the taxonomical note on the genus). Libellula quadrimaculata LINNAEUS, 1758 - This species seems to be restricted to alpine lakes in Albania Sympetrum depressiusculum (SÉLYS-LONGCHAMPS, 1841 ) - This lowland species is rare in the Balkans (BiLEK 1966, ASKEW 1988) and the present record is the first for Albania. Accessory genitalia of the male specimen are shown in Fig. 2. Figs 2-3. 2 = male accessory genitalia of Sympetrum depressiusculum (SÉLYS-LONGCHAMPS, 1841), locality No. 4, lateral view 3 = male terminalia of Somatochlora meridionalis NIELSEN, 1935, locality No. 19, lateral view. Scale = 1 mm
