E-mail:chirov@sgu.ru Abstract - Neotrombicula sympatrica STEKOLNIKOV, 2001 was collected in three areas of Kyrgyzstan from 64 individuals belonging to 8 species of rodents. In total, 2662 larvae were collected, of which 1629 (61.19%) were stuck to the skin, the rest was obtained by combing. A7. sympatrica infested 9 areas of the skin of the hosts grouped into three regions: cochlea (inside, edge and outside of ear), ano-genital region (genitals, anus and under the tail) and ventral region (belly, breast and chin). Host preference, seasonal and topographical distribution, and coexistence of N. sympatrica with other chigger mites are given. With 3 figures and 6 tables. Key words - Parasitism, chigger mites, Kyrgyzstan. INTRODUCTION The larvae of chigger mites are temporary ectoparasites of a wide range of vertebrates, with feebly marked specificity in the choice of the hosts. The distribution of the mites adapted to a defined group of animals depends on the spreading of hosts, and on the abiotic factors of the habitats. The species of mites, parasitising representatives of amphibians, reptiles and birds, are more specific, than those associated with mammals. On mammals, the mites prefer the cochlea, and also the anus and genitals. The life cycle of Trombiculidae consists of three quiescent stages: eggs, protonymphs (nymph chrysalis), tritonymphs (imago chrysalis), and three active phases: larvae, nymphs and imagoes. The chigger mites have the spermatophoric (external-internal) insemination.
