SPECIES REMOVED WHICH WERE INCLUDED IN PREVIOUS CHECKLISTS Earomyia crystallopbila (BECKER, 1895) - There are four specimens in the HNHM collections standing under this name, two males and two females. The males have short haired eyes, the hairs not longer than the width of an ocellus, the antennái flagellomere as deep as it is wide, the prosternum bare and the anterior genal setulae in a single row along the mouth margin. In the male genitalia the epandrium is rectangular in shape with relatively large cerci. This description does not correspond to that of£. crystallopbila, which has much longer haired eyes, setulae on the prosternum, multiserial anterior genal setulae and differently shaped male genitalia. In addition this description does not link these specimens clearly to other European Earomyia species and as a consequence the identity of this species is still under investigation. Chaetolonchaea brevipilosa CZERNY, 1934 - Three females in the collection from Hortobágy National Park (det. Á. SOÓS, 1975) all have long haired eyes and ovipositors similar to that of C dasyops (MEIGEN, 1826) although in nearly all cases the setae on the apical segment of the ovipositor are missing. My conclusion is that they are specimens of C. dasyops (MEIGEN, 1826) and that C. brevipilosa although recorded from Germany, Poland and Slovakia still remains to be confirmed as a Hungarian species. Lonchaea hirticeps ZETTERSTEDT, 1837 - L. hirticeps is regarded as a relatively uncommon high boreal species, it belongs to the group within the genus Lonchaea with hairy eyes which has been the subject of considerable taxonomic confusion in the past. On examination of specimens standing under this name in the HNHM collections they are considered to belong to either L.fraxina MACGOWAN et ROTHERAY, 2000 or L. iona MACGOWAN, 2001. Lonchaea stigmatica CZERNY, 1934 - This species also belongs to the taxonomically difficult hairy-eyed group within the genus Lonchaea. The specimens standing as L. stigmatica in the HNHM collections do not have the very long intercostal space, which is present in the female holotype of this species, which originates from Tadjikistan in central Asia, and therefore they belong to either of the European species L.fraxina MACGOWAN et ROTHERAY, 2000 or L. iona MACGOWAN, 2001. Lonchaea laxa COLLIN, 1953 - Previously in the European literature this species has been often confused with the similar L. ajfinis MALLOCH, 1920. However the female specimen in the HNHM from Zemplén Mountains only has single stigmatical setae and as a result does not belong to either L. laxa or L. affinis. With this single stigmatical setae, a dark squamal fringe and partly yellow tarsomeres it is most probably a female of either L. gorodkovi KOVALEV, 1974, L. mallochi MACGOWAN et ROTHERAY, 2000 or L. tenuicornis KOVALEV, 1978. Lonchaea laticornis MEIGEN, 1826 - The taxonomy of the species group, which includes L. laticornis, was reviewed by MACGOWAN & ROTHERAY (2000). They concluded that the status of L. laticornis remains unclear, the holotype is a female, which at present is difficult to attribute to any other lonchaeid male, they also found that the species previously known as L. laticornis in the literature was in fact a complex of several species.
