between them in colour (namely corial spot of the type of Geocoris kalighatus is greater). Lectotype of Geocoris hirsutus, deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Budapest, HNHM) is designated here. It is a female specimen in good condition with the following labels: 1. "Trichinopoly Biró 1902" (printed) and with handwriting on the bottom: "8. Ill"; 2. "hirsutus Mtd." (probably HORVÁTH' s handwriting) "det. Montand."; 3. "Geocoris hirsutus Montd." (probably HORVÁTH' s handwriting); 4. "LECTOTYPE Kondorosy design. 2005" printed. While studying species of Geocorinae the author revised the status of Geocoris itonis HORVÁTH, 1905. VAN DUZEE (1928) transferred it to Hypogeocoris MONTANDON, 1913. SLATER (1964) followed this approach. However, this species is very closely related to Geocoris grylloides (LINNAEUS, 1761), which is the type species of the genus Geocoris FALLÉN, 1814. Therefore the correct combination of the species is the original: Geocoris itonis HORVÁTH, 1905, resurrected combination. The lectotype specimen is labelled as follows: 1. "Japonia Sapporo Matsumura" (Sapporo handwriting, others printed); 2. "Itonis Horv." (probably HORVÁTH' s handwriting) "det. Horváth"; 3. Geocoris Itonis Horv." (probably HORVÁTH' s handwriting); 4. red label with handwriting "Hypogeocoris itonis (Horváth) lectotype female J. Péricart design. 1992". There are also types of other Geocorinae species located in the HNHM, among them a type specimen of Stylogeocoris birói MONTANDON, 1913. According to the original description (MONTANDON 1913) he deposited syntypes in the collection of the HNHM and his own collection, respectively. According to SIENKIEWICZ (1964), MONTANDON's collection was partially destroyed in the World War II. It is possible that MALIPATIL ( 1994) wrote because of this reason about the species in this way: "Type of Stylogeocoris biroi Montandon can not be located and is possibly lost." Therefore, I designate here the type found in the HNHM as lectotype. It is a male specimen in good condition, labelled as follows: 1. "Australia Biró 1900" printed; 2. "N. S. Wales Mt. Victoria" printed, backside handwriting "XL 14."; 3. handwriting "Stylogeocoris birói Montandon" red "type 1913"; 4. "LECTOTYPE Kondorosy design. 2005" printed. * Acknowledgements - Special thanks are due to Mr. MICK WEBB, curator of Hcmiptera in the Natural History Museum (London), for his kind help and Dr. TAMÁS VÁSÁRHELYI for the loan of the types.
