their original descriptions, seems to be clear-cut. (Regarding the original descriptions, S. intermedia and S. rondoniensis also differ) In the same paper MEINANDER (1995) regards S. tricornis a junior synonym of S. arnaoudi. However, because of the differences of parameres and uncini shown by the figures in the original descriptions, the conspecificity may not be stated with certainty without reexamination of the type materials. MEINANDER (1983a) illustrated the variability of some genitalic features of S. meridionalis, and he stated that S. uncinata is within the range of this variability, so this is a junior synonym of the former species. On the other hand, the hypandria of the figured S. meridionalis specimens are not variable, and clearly differ from that which is seen in the original description of S. uncinata. Consequently, S. intermedia, S. tricornis and S. uncinata should be regarded as valid species. MEINANDER (1975a) gives a description with detailed drawings on a male Semidalis specimen from Mexico determined by him as S.fro?nmeri, with the remark that it differs somewhat from the original description. However, the shape of hypandrium entirely different as it is shown by the figure of the original description of S. frommeri. Therefore, these are surely not conspecific, and the specimen mentioned in MEIN ANDER (1975a) represents most probably an undescribed species. Semidalis angusta group - Species included: S. angusta (BANKS, 1906), S. fuelleborni ENDERLEIN, 1906, S. kazakhstanica ZAKHARENKO, 1988. - Main distinctive features: rectangular or trapezoid widened part of paramere situated dorsally. - Distribution: The three species occuring in three different areas, namely in Kazakhstan, in southern part of North America and in the Afrotropical Region. Semidalis boliviensis group - Species included: S. boliviensis (ENDERLEIN, 1905), S. brasiliensis MEINANDER, 1974, S. hidalgoana MEINANDER, 1975, S. lolae MONSERRAT, 1983, S. manausensis MEINANDER, 1980, S. mexicana MEINANDER, 1972, S. panamensis MEINANDER, 1974, S. problematica MONSERRAT, 1985, S. rondoniensis MEIN ANDER, 1982, S. serrata MEINANDER, 1983, S. soleri MONSERRAT, 1985, S. sonorana MEINANDER, 1975. - Main distinctive features: distal part of paramere not widened distinctly; it divided into narrow branches, and/or bent upward in a blunt angle. - Distribution: Neotropical Region. - Remarks: MEINANDER (1995) synonymized S. hidalgoana and S. sonorana with S. mexicana without offering any reason for it, although all these three species were described on the basis of several specimens, and the differences in the original descriptions seem to be distinct, especially, as regards the hypandrium. Therefore, in the present paper these three species are regarded as valid. Moreover, MEINANDER (1995) stated S. problematica being a junior synonym of S. manausensis. According to the original descriptions, distal part of the paramere of S. manausensis is
