Coniopteryx collaris group - Species included: C. coliaris SZIRÁKI, 1997, C. stylobasalis SZIRÁKI et VAN HARTEN 2005. - Main distinctive features: processus apicalis of paramere with a very long, forwards directed projection, or with a fused, collar-like structure. - Distribution: Yemen. Coniopteryx crassicornis group - Species included: C. aequatoriana MONSERRAT, 1989, C. crassicornis ESBEN-PETERSEN, 1928, C. laticaudata SZIRÁKI, 1994, C. unguicaudata SZIRÁKI et GREVE, 1996. - Main distinctive features: gonarcus without internal projection; stylus forked, and its posterior branch wide, usually lobe like. - Distribution: Afrotropical Region. Coniopteryx diversicornis group - Species included: C canadensis MEINANDER, 1972, C. canariensis MONSERRAT 2002, C. diversicornis MEINANDER, 1972, C. meinanderi JOHNSON, 1980, C. texana MEINANDER, 1972. - Main distinctive features: stylus unforked, gonarcus without internal projection, antennae without scale-like hairs. - Distribution: North America (4 species) and Canary Islands (1 species). Coniopteryx loipetsederi group - Species included: C. atlantica OHM, 1963, C. kisi SZIRÁKI, 1994, C. loipetsederi ASPÖCK, 1963. - Main distinctive features: gonarcus ending in a long, thorn- or claw-like projection; hypandrium between processus lateralis and processus terminális very short. - Distribution: two species in the south-western parts of the Palaearctic, and one in the Afrotropical Region. Coniopteryx maculithorax group - Species included: C. maculithorax ENDERLEIN, 1906, C. occidentalis MEINANDER, 1972, C. orientális MEINANDER, 1972, C. tillyardi MEINANDER, 1972. - Main distinctive features: gonarcus without internal projection; stylus forked, and its posterior branch acute. - Distribution: Australia.
