Coniopteryx westwoodi group - Species included: C. californica MEINANDER, 1974, C. californica sensu MEINANDER 2002, Cfitchi BANKS, 1895, C. latipalpis MEINANDER, 1972, C. mexicana MEINANDER 1974, C. palpalis MEINANDER, 1972, C. quadricephala JOHNSON, 1980, C. westwoodi (FITCH, 1856). Main distinctive features: fourth segment of the maxillary palpi of males enlarged, frons modified. - Distribution: Central and North America. - Remarks: MEIN ANDER (2002) figured in detail the terminalia and internal genitalia of three coniopterygid specimens from Nicaragua which were determined by him as C. californica. However, in my opinion the depicted organs distinctly differ from those of C. californica, and these specimens probably belong to an undescribed new species in this group. Subgenus Xeroconiopteryx MEINANDER, 1972 In the present paper this subgenus is divided into 17 groups. Seven of them (C. aegyptiaca, C. crassicornis, C. diversicornis, C. loipetsederi, C maculithorax, C. rostrogonarcuata and C. zulu groups) were included also in MEINANDER' s grouping (MEINANDER 1972, 1981).
