FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK Volume 64 2003 pp. 85-94. A revised check-list of Orthoptera-species of Hungary supplemented by Hungarian names of grasshopper species B. NAGY Abstract: A revised check-list of Orthoptera-species for Hungary is given with a short historical background and comments on problematic occurrences. The check-list for the first time contains the Hungarian names of grasshopper taxa. Species being officially under nature conservancy status are also indicated. Key words: faunistic survey, Hungarian names, species under nature conservation, Hungary The first monography on the "Orthopterorum Hungáriáé' was published by Frivaldszky (1867), however, earlier a restricted check-list on "Gryllorum Hungáriáé ..." had been given by Ocskay (1826). In the very often cited standard work: "Fauna Regni Hungáriáé" - planned originally to be publised at the Millenium of Hungary-Pungur (1918, in reality in 1899) published a comprehensive check-list of the Orthoptera. This list contains, beside the grasshoppers, also forficulids, blattids, mantids and phasmids, too. All these works relate to the so called "historical Hungary", which comprised the entire Carpathian Basin until 1920. The monograph of Redtenbacher (1900) generally hardly contains detailed places of occurrences for Hungary. Meanwhile, Herman (1871) also published a fundamental check-list of Orthoptera (and Dermaptera), but only for Transylvania, which was that time in reality the southeastern part of Hungary (and of the Carpathian Basin). The check-lists of the Orthoptera species for the present territory of Hungary was published by Kisbenedek (1997) and Rácz (1998). Because of some problematical items of these check-lists (see signed with an asterisk (*) in the "Remarks": which is based on the up-to-date nomenclature and taxonomy published recently by Heller et al. (1998), it seems necessary to give a revised check-list of the Hungarian Orthoptera fauna. This revised check-list contains the (suggested official) Hungarian names of the grasshopper species, as well. At the same time, the species being under nature conservation status in Hungary were also indicated (bold-
