Simulium (Wilhelmia) equinum (Linnaeus, 1758) - First records from Hungary. - Zátonyi-Duna river branch; Dunakiliti (47°57'57"N; 17°18'23"E): 20.07.2002, 8 pupae, 7 pupal exuviae. Outflow of the branch system into the Danube River; Dunasziget-Cikolasziget (47°55'58" N; 17°24'33"E): 19.06.2002,2 pupae, 1 pupal exuvia. Weir in a branch at river km 1834.5 of Danube; Dunasziget -Cikolasziget (47°56'28" N; 17°23'22" E): 20.07.2002, 7 pupae. Simulium (Wilhelmia) lineatum (Meigen, 1804) - The presence of S. lineatum in the checklist of Hungarian blackflies (Papp 2001) is based on two females collected at Bükkábrány, 14th May 1959, identified as Wilhelmia lineata (Meig.) sensu Rubtsov (1956) by Rubzow (1967). W. lineata sensu Rubtsov is a synonym of Simulium paraequinum Puri, 1933, according to Crosskey & Howard (1996). Thus S. lineatum in the checklist of the Hungarian blackflies (Papp 2001) represents the biological species S. paraequinum. Rubtsov (1956) misapplied the name Wilhelmia salopiense (Edward, 1927) for the species S. lineatum (Crosskey & Howard 1996). First records from Hungary. - Zátonyi-Duna river branch; Dunakiliti (47°57'57"N; 17°18'23"E): 19.06.2002, 1 pupa; 20.07.2002, 8 pupae, 8 pupal exuviae. Outflow of the branch system into the Danube River; Dunasziget - Cikolasziget (47°55'58"N; 17°24'33"E): 19.06.2002, 2 pupae. The blackfly fauna of Hungary is insufficiently known. The checklist of Hungarian blackflies (Diptera, Simuliidae) contains 11 species (Papp 2001) based on the data published by Rubzow (1967), who examined 125 blackfly imagines. The historical data of five Simuliidae species (Thalhammer 1900) were not considered to be reliable because the revision of the material was not possible as the collection was completely annihilated (Papp 2001). The better known blackfly fauna of some neighbouring countries consists of approximately four times more species: 46 species are known from Slovakia (Jedlicka 1996), 45 species from Austria (Car & Lechthaler 2002) and 40 species from Serbia (Crosskey & Howard 1996). According to the results presented by this paper the Simuliidae fauna of Hungary contains 14 species. Although it is not probable that some mountain species living in Austria and Slovakia can occur also in Hungary, the total number of species living in Hungary is certainly higher. Further collecting of all stages in various biotopes is needed to increase the knowledge of the Hungarian blackfly fauna.
