not/A. infectorius, as its which hardness would probably have drawn Olivier's attention. Olivier's type material of Diplolepis gallaetinctoriae is presumably lost (C. Villemant, curator of the MNHN, Paris, pers. comm.), but distributional data may shed additional light on the subject. Olivier (1791) in his description mentioned that "The same species of gall that comes to us from Levant, and which is employed in commerce, was also found in the Meridional provinces of France, but they are smaller". This note provoke a question, where the gall he described originated from: from France or Asia Minor? If the material is originated from South France, then the species probably belongs to A. hispanicus, but if it comes from Asia Minor, it might be A. infectorius or A. sternlichti sp. n. (see below), which in addition are larger wasps, like that was stated in Olivier's description. Moreover, at the end of the description, Olivier wrote: "It was found in France, in Levant", that means that the material comes not from the south as he wrote, but from another French region where the most likely species is A. kollari. As the type material is lost, we think it is better to consider Diplolepis gallaetinctoriae as a nomen dubium, because we can't know exactly to which of four species (A. kollari, A. hispanicus, A. infectorius or A. sternlichti) Olivier referred to. Later, Olivier (1801: 252) redescribed D. gallaetinctoriae from Asia Minor, what is a further complication, concerning the locality of the material wich was used for the original species description. Latreille (1805: 206) also redescribed this species, including figures, but without giving the original locality, only mentioned that it came from the "galle du Levant", used in the commerce. Therefore we can't know what species Latreille was referring to: A. kollari or A. hispanicus, since they are sibling species and the locality, which is very important, is not given (North or South France). Houard (1909: 75) found an old collection in the MNHN, which he attributed to Latreille, in which both galls and adults, collected in Aix-en-Provence, South of France were represented. So, it is possible that Latreille referred to A. hispanicus, but this can't be demonstrated. Boyer de Fonscolombe (1832: 188-189) redescribed A. gallaetinctoriae again, from the material collected in Aix-enProvence in South France, the populations of which belongs to A. hispanicus. Lamarck (1835: 371-372) made again the similar confusion and recorded A. gallaetinctoriae from "Levant" (Asia Minor). Comments - The analysis of galls and adult wasps of the asexual "Andricus gallaetinctoriae', collected by authors in Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine, and also material deposited in the HNHM (Budapest) (first of all, Gy. Méhes collection of galls and adults and B. Ambrus huge collection of galls, collected from the entire territory of Hungary and partially Slovakia) showed, that they all belong to Andricus infectorius and not to A. kollari. Thus, in many earlier publications they were incorrectly referred to A. gallaetinctoriae (Ambrus 1974, Bálás 1941, Méhes
