FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK Volume63 2002 pp. 157-162. Contribution to the tabánid (Diptera: Tabanidae) fauna of Hungary, II. Atylotus, Haematopota, Heptatoma, Philipomyia and Therioplectes genera J. M A JER Abstract: The Hungarian Atylotus, Haematopota, Heptatoma, Philipomyia, and Therioplectes genera were revised. Three Atylotus, 8 Haematopota, 1 Heptatoma, 2 Philipomya and 1 Therioplectes species have been hitherto known from Hungary. The references of their collecting data are given and their distribution is shown on EIS UTM System international standard grid map. Key words: Atylotus, Therioplectes, Heptatoma, Haematopota, Therioplectes, Philipomyia, Hungary Tabanidae (deer- and horse-flies) comprise 61 species in Hungary (Majer 2001). There are several places whence tabanids have been reported from the country due to systematic surveying of the fauna of landscape protection areas and national parks. The first list of these flies contained 48 species for the ancient Hungarian Kingdom published Thalhammer (1900). The complete Hungarian Tabanidae collection perished in fire in 1956. Aradi (1956,1958) made a revision of the Hungarian fauna based on the perished material. He used Kröber's (1928) determination book which does not include some species (e.g. Haematopota scutellata), others are rather confusing (e.g. Haematopota ocelligera). Some species name proved to synonyms or invalid in the work of Aradi. There was not any possibility to control his data since no voucher specimens prevailed. After 1956 due to thorough systematic collecting of tabanids in our country accumulated a rather rich material of which contains some species proved to be new for our fauna (Majer 1987a, b, 1988, Tóth 1999, 2000).
