Fig. 3. Locality of Basilia nattereri (1996-2000) in Gerecse, and in the Pilis-Visegrád mountains. The map does not show the Alcsut, and the Sopron Botanical Gardens 28-30. - 1 male and 2 females: Pilisszentkereszt, Ordöglyuk-barlang, from male M. nattereri, 01.09.2000.; Nr. 31-32. - 2 females: Pilisszentkereszt, Ordöglyuk-barlang, from male M. nattereri, 01.09.2000. Leg. ABPB, det. Czuppon B. It is a new species for the fauna of Hungary. Kertész (1910), Éhik & Dudich (1924) and Soós (1955) mention a species of bat fly under the name Penicillidia nattereri, that had been described by Kolenati in 1857, but it was Speiser who gave it the above name in 1901. Dudich (1925) gave account of the occurrence of two specimens of Basilia nattereri in Hungary. One of them was captured from a M. bechsteini from Zayugróc [Uhrovec, Slovakia]. The site of the other occurrence from a Myotis emarginatus was unkown to the author. Since Zayugróc does not belong to present-day Hungary, and no geographical location belongs to the other occurrence, its presence in Hungary cannot be established on the basis of these data. The two synonymous name variants were used both for Basilia nana, and Basilia nattereri since the two species were first distinguished by Theodor in 1954. The original description of the species by Kolenati fits Basilia nattereri (Theodor & Moscona 1954). Hûrka & Soós (1986) do not verify the occurrence of any of the Basilia species in Hungary, thus — since it is a comprehensive, enumerative catalogue — it is denied. Acknowledgement — The authors thank the members of the Association for Bat Protection, Budapest, for their field work and the gathering of bat fly specimens, Mr. Róbert Farkas, DVM, Ph.D. (Szent István University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department of Parasitology and Zoology, Budapest) for his contribution to the identification of the specimens, and for Ms Éva Orbán (Szent István University, Central Library of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Budapest) for her help in the compilation of the manuscript.
