ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LXII 2001 pp. 263-273 Contribution to the Asilidae fauna of Hungary (Diptera) J. Majer Contribution to the Asilidae fauna of Hungary (Diptera) — 54 Asilid species are in the recent collection of the Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum from Hungary. Their distribution data are given. About 72 species are recently published from Hungary, most of them are in this collection. Key words: Hungary, Asilidae, Hungarian Natural History Museum, 54 species. About 110 species of Asilidae (Robber-flies) are in Hungary. They are reported from only a few places in the country due to very sporadic collecting. The single species list of these flies contains 110 species published by Thalhammer (1900). Several data in Thalhammer's list neither taxonomically nor nomenclatorially were correct. The complete old Hungarian Asilidae collection perished in fire in 1956. The new Asilid material contains 54 voucher species deposited in the collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (most of them determined by Hradsky about 30 years ago). The collection was nomenclatorially corrected and the few undetermined species were identificated by the author. Some other Asilid species can be found in the private collection of Tóth. Most of these species included into the list were mentioned by Thalhammer, too. However more than 20 species cannot be found in the earlier lists. Few sporadic articles were published about the recent Hungarian Asilid fauna (Majer 1981, 1985, 1987, 1991, 1996; Tóth 1966). The known Asilid species from Hungary are 72, based on the new collecting data in Hungary only. The estimated number of species in Hungary is about 110.
