His habitus drawing of the adult showed the enlarged hind tibiae with a hollowed out area ands the enlarged postero-lateral margin of the abdominal segments. His description includes "Connexivum armed with a largely subacute tooth at the posterior angle of each abdominal segment." and "...tibiae sulcated, posterior ones of female dilated near the base;". No mention is made of the possible use of such structures. Durai (1987) revised the world species of the family Dinidoridae and included 13 genera and 115 species. One new genus and three new species were described at that time. The classification presented follows: DINIDORIDAE Dinidorinae Dinidorini Dinidor Latreille Byrodepsus Stal* Segriva Spinola* Thalmini Megymeninae Urusa Walker Patanocnema Karsh* Cyclopelta Amyot and Servi lie* Coridius Illiger* Colpoproctus Stal* Thalma Walker* Folengus Distant ? Doesbergiana Durai* Eumenotes Westwood* Megymenini Megymenum Guérin-Ménéville* Eumenotini The asterisk after a generic name indicates the presence of an expanded hind tibia based upon the descriptions given by Durai (1987) for one or more species in the genus. No comment was made upon the condition of the hind tibiae in species of Folengus. Clearly, the base structure of a stridulatory organ is present in most of the genera in the family. Lis (1990), dealing with the Old World Dinidoridae, made additions and corrections to the earlier paper by Durai and added many new localities for other species. The illustrations and descriptions added further information on the structure of the hind tibia that included mention of the lateral extensions of some of the abdominal connexiva. Under the description of the new species Coridius kerzhneri Lis stated "...tibial organ distinct". He added species of the genus Amberiana Distant as having expanded hind tibia and placed Amberiana in the tribe Dinidorini. Lis' new genus Coridiellus contained several species described as having the hind tibia expanded [C. patroelis (Stal), C. figlinus (Distant), and C. mayumbensis (Schouteden)]. The new genus was related to Colpoproctus Stal and Coridius Illiger, both genera placed in the tribe Dinidorini. Three genera of Dinidoridae either have unmodified hind tibia or we lack sufficient information on them. The monotypic Urusa crass Walker from Malaysia has the hind tibia unmodified (Durai 1987). No information is available about the condition of the tibia in the monotypic Folengus papuensis Distant from New Guinea. Species of Dinidor Latreille, with six species from South America, lack any modification of the
