S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 61. (Budapest, 2000)
Material examined — Holotype: Malgasy Republic, Antananarivo, Prov. Angavo escarpment. Old Eucalyptus plantation replacing montane rainforest at the S side of main road between Ambatolaona and Mandraka, 40 km E from the capital, at 1350-1400 m. alt. 18°54.3-9' S, 47°53.6-7' E. 27. August 1998. Leg. T. Pócs, No. 9891. Four paratypes: from the same sample. Holotype: (1647-HO-00) and 3 paratypes (1647-PO-OO) are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), Budapest, with identification numbers of the specimens in the Collection of Arachnida, 1 paratype deposited in the Museum d'Histoire naturelle, Geneva (MHNG). Remarks — The presence of the genus Nothrus C. L. Koch, 1835 was unknown from Madagascar, but some Nothrus species were described from the eastern and southern parts of the Ethiopean region (e.g. Balogh 1958). On the basis of the form of setae h the new species belongs to the anauniensis-group, however, all tarsi of the new species are monodactylous. It is well characterised by the form of the anal and adanal setae (never simple and setiform), and by the ratio of setae h x and h 2 . It stands nearest to N. basilewskyi Balogh, 1958, however, posteromarginal setae are longer in N. basilewskyi. Derivatio nominis — Named after its origin. Damaeolus ocellatus sp. n. (Figs 5-6) Measurements — Length: 308 pm, width: 175 pm. Prodorsum: Rostrum widely rounded, surface with a characteristic structure consisting of short costulae bent inwards and an indistinct transcostula. Anteriorly a pair of tubercles present bearing the lamellar setae. In the interbothridial region a pair of weak tubercles bearing the interlamellar setae and between them a sharply pointed median one observable. All prodorsal setae slightly dilated basally, rostral and lamellar setae long, interlamellar ones short. Bothridium opened outwards and backwards. Sensillus fusiform, with a separate distal part, and ending in a flagellate seta. (This form is characteristic for the genus Damaeolus Paoli, 1908.) Notogaster: Dorsosejugal suture nearly straight, with a small humeral process. Eleven pairs of notogatsral setae of the same length. Eight pairs arising marginally, 1 pair (c,) anteromedially, 1 pair (lm) medially and 1 pair (Ip) posteromedially. All setae dilated basally with a setiform, curved distal part (Fig. 5). Notogaster covered by a cerotegument layer showing a characteristic cellulate sculpture medially. Ventral side: Epimeral surface smooth, apodemes and epimeral borders weakly developed, short, the sejugal ones not touching medially. Epimeral setal formula: 3-1-3-3. Setae 1c, lb and 1c arising near to each other, laterally, setae 3c originating on lateral tubercles, setae 4a, 4b and 4c compose also a group laterally. All epimeral setae very thin and fine. Ventral plate with the genital opening protruding anteriorly between the acetabula of leg IV, genital plates conspicuously elongated anteriorly. The surface of the genital plate smooth, ventral plate ornamented by polygonal pattern and some laths on the anal plates showing a characteristic formation (Fig. 6). All setae in the anogenital region simple, their formula: 6-3-2-3. Adanal setae longer than the remaining ones. Lyrifissures iad hardly visible, located laterally. Gnathosoma: Characteristic, very similar to the same parts of"Fosseremus quadripertitus" figured by Grandjean (1965: 3A-E). Solenidium of palps long, dilated distally. Legs: Typical for the genus. All legs monodactylous.
