Mahunka Oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida) from Madagascar IV: new Nothrus and Damaeolus species — A study on oribatid mites collected in Madagascar is presented. Two species (Nothrus madagascarensis sp. n. and Damaeolus ocellatus sp. n.) are described. Some taxonomical notes on the relationships within their genus is given. With 6 figures. Key words: Acari, Oribatida, new species, Madagascar. INTRODUCTION I am continuously studying the oribatid species of Madagascar (Malgasy Republic) (e.g. Mahunka 1996). In my previous papers, generally I described some species belonging to larger families. In the present publication I give the description of new species belonging to two smaller families, one belonging to Nothridae Berlese, 1896, the other to Damaeolidae Grandjean, 1965. DESCRIPTIONS Nothrus madagascarensis sp. n. (Figs 1-4) Measurements — Length: 678-734 pm, width: 360-388 pm. Body and setae mostly covered with thin cerotegument layer. Prodorsum: Rostrum wide, with a distinct median slit. Surface ornamented by irregular polygonal pattern, excepting the rostral (with larger, transversal fields) and median interbothridial parts (with smaller transversal fields arranged in two longitudinal rows). A well protruding lamellar apophysis present bearing the lamellar setae (Fig. 1). Rostral setae curved medially, horn-shaped, lamellar and interlamellar ones wide, leaf-shaped. Exobothridial setae minute. Sensillus setiform, blunt at tip, with a very thin marginal velum. Slightly roughened distally. Notogaster: Slightly broadened posteriorly, central part also broadened, parallel with the lateral margin. Posterior part very high, setae p { not visible in dorsal view. Dorsosejugal suture slightly convex medially. Surface ornamented by irregular polygo-
