Ovipositor sheath brownish black. Wings brownish fumous, pterostigma yellow, apical­ly brownish, veins brown to brownish. Redescription of twenty-one female paralectotypes + three females of Bracon fuma­tus — Similar to the female lectotype. Body 3.5-4 mm long (3.5: 2 2, 3.8: 18 9, 4: 4 2). Antenna with 22-26 antennomeres (22: 1 2, 23: 3 2, 24: 2 2, 25: 6 2, 26: 6 2; 6 2 with broken antenna). Head in dorsal view 1.5-1.66 times as broad as long (1.5: 3 2, 1.55: 1 2, 1.6: 15 2, 1.66: 5 2). Eye in lateral view 1.2-1.3 times as wide as temple. 3-SR of fore wing 1.4-1.5 times as long as 2-SR and 4-SR 1.5-1.6 times as long as 3-SR. First ter­gite 1.2-1.25(-1.3) times as long as broad behind. Ground colour of body reddish yel­low to rusty brown with variable brown to dark brown pattern. Pterostigma yellow and apically more or less brown(ish). Redescription of six male paralectotypes of B. fumatus — Similar to the female type series. Body 3-3.5 mm long. Antenna with 25-28 antennomeres (25: 2 d, 27: 1 d, 28: 1 d; 2 d with broken antenna). Head in dorsal view 1.5-1.7 times as broad as long (1.5: 1 d, 1.55: 1 d, 1.6: 3 d, 1.7: 1 d). Ground colour of body rusty (3 d) or reddish yellow (2 d). Host unknown. Distribution — Hungary, Ukraine, Kazakhstan. Within the subgenus Glabrobracon (Fahringer, 1927) Tobias, 1957 Bracon fumatus Szépligeti is nearest, besides B.(G.) dolichurus Marshall, see key couplets 10(11) ­11(10) at B. (G.) dilatus p. 276, to B. hilarellus Schmiedeknecht, 1897 (Algeria) consid­ering their cubic head and long ovipositor sheath; their specific distinction is not easy and restricts to a few features keyed below: 1 (2) Eye in lateral view (Fig. 27) about 1.2-1.4 times as wide as temple, in dorsal view eye somewhat shorter than temple (Fig. 26). Tergites 2-3 equal in length, rim of first tergite laterally from scutum relatively narrow (Fig. 32). Second submarginal cell long, 4-SR at most 1.5-1.55 times as long as 3-SR (Fig. 29). Antenna with (23-)25-25 (2) and with 25-28 (d) antennomeres. Ground colour of body rather rusty to reddish yellow. 2: (3-)3.8-4 mm, d: 3-3.5 mm B. (G.) fumatus Szépligeti 2 (1) Temple in lateral view (Fig. 33) about 1.2 times as wide as eye, in dorsal view eye as long as temple (Fig. 34). Second tergite somewhat longer than third ter­gite, rim of first tergite laterally from scutum relatively wide (Fig. 35). Second submarginal cell less long, 4-SR at least 1.7 times as long as 3-SR. Antenna with 30 (2) antennomeres. Ground colour of body rather yellow. 2: 4.2 mm B. (G.) hilarellus Schmiedeknecht Within the genus Bracon Fabricius the species B. (G.) fumatus is allied to B. (Lucobracon) brunescens Fahringer et Schmiedeknecht, besides the subgeneric differ­ence there are only a few features separating the two species from each other: 1 (2) Horizontal diameter of oral cavity twice as long as shortest distance between margin of cavity and compound eye (Fig. 36, see arrows) (subgeneric differ­ence). Third tergite just longer than second tergite (Fig. 37). Pterostigma issu­ing radial vein (r) somewhat proximally from its middle, pterostigma itself 2.5­2.6 times as long as wide, second submarginal cell less long, 4-SR at least 1.8 times as long as 3-SR (Fig. 38).
