Ovipositor sheath brownish black. Wings brownish fumous, pterostigma yellow, apically brownish, veins brown to brownish. Redescription of twenty-one female paralectotypes + three females of Bracon fumatus — Similar to the female lectotype. Body 3.5-4 mm long (3.5: 2 2, 3.8: 18 9, 4: 4 2). Antenna with 22-26 antennomeres (22: 1 2, 23: 3 2, 24: 2 2, 25: 6 2, 26: 6 2; 6 2 with broken antenna). Head in dorsal view 1.5-1.66 times as broad as long (1.5: 3 2, 1.55: 1 2, 1.6: 15 2, 1.66: 5 2). Eye in lateral view 1.2-1.3 times as wide as temple. 3-SR of fore wing 1.4-1.5 times as long as 2-SR and 4-SR 1.5-1.6 times as long as 3-SR. First tergite 1.2-1.25(-1.3) times as long as broad behind. Ground colour of body reddish yellow to rusty brown with variable brown to dark brown pattern. Pterostigma yellow and apically more or less brown(ish). Redescription of six male paralectotypes of B. fumatus — Similar to the female type series. Body 3-3.5 mm long. Antenna with 25-28 antennomeres (25: 2 d, 27: 1 d, 28: 1 d; 2 d with broken antenna). Head in dorsal view 1.5-1.7 times as broad as long (1.5: 1 d, 1.55: 1 d, 1.6: 3 d, 1.7: 1 d). Ground colour of body rusty (3 d) or reddish yellow (2 d). Host unknown. Distribution — Hungary, Ukraine, Kazakhstan. Within the subgenus Glabrobracon (Fahringer, 1927) Tobias, 1957 Bracon fumatus Szépligeti is nearest, besides B.(G.) dolichurus Marshall, see key couplets 10(11) 11(10) at B. (G.) dilatus p. 276, to B. hilarellus Schmiedeknecht, 1897 (Algeria) considering their cubic head and long ovipositor sheath; their specific distinction is not easy and restricts to a few features keyed below: 1 (2) Eye in lateral view (Fig. 27) about 1.2-1.4 times as wide as temple, in dorsal view eye somewhat shorter than temple (Fig. 26). Tergites 2-3 equal in length, rim of first tergite laterally from scutum relatively narrow (Fig. 32). Second submarginal cell long, 4-SR at most 1.5-1.55 times as long as 3-SR (Fig. 29). Antenna with (23-)25-25 (2) and with 25-28 (d) antennomeres. Ground colour of body rather rusty to reddish yellow. 2: (3-)3.8-4 mm, d: 3-3.5 mm B. (G.) fumatus Szépligeti 2 (1) Temple in lateral view (Fig. 33) about 1.2 times as wide as eye, in dorsal view eye as long as temple (Fig. 34). Second tergite somewhat longer than third tergite, rim of first tergite laterally from scutum relatively wide (Fig. 35). Second submarginal cell less long, 4-SR at least 1.7 times as long as 3-SR. Antenna with 30 (2) antennomeres. Ground colour of body rather yellow. 2: 4.2 mm B. (G.) hilarellus Schmiedeknecht Within the genus Bracon Fabricius the species B. (G.) fumatus is allied to B. (Lucobracon) brunescens Fahringer et Schmiedeknecht, besides the subgeneric difference there are only a few features separating the two species from each other: 1 (2) Horizontal diameter of oral cavity twice as long as shortest distance between margin of cavity and compound eye (Fig. 36, see arrows) (subgeneric difference). Third tergite just longer than second tergite (Fig. 37). Pterostigma issuing radial vein (r) somewhat proximally from its middle, pterostigma itself 2.52.6 times as long as wide, second submarginal cell less long, 4-SR at least 1.8 times as long as 3-SR (Fig. 38). Ovipositor sheath distally downcurved (Fig. 39). 2d: (3-) 3.8-4 mm B. (Lucobracon) brunescens Fahringer et Schmiedeknecht
