S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 60. (Budapest, 1999)
Helophorus flavipes Fabricius, 1792 — Potony, 06.08.1997, leg. József Sár and Zsolt Gidó (JPM) (Gidó and Szél 1998). - European species. So far this is the only locality from Hungary, but the revision of the HNHM collection may yield further data. Helophorus grandis Illiger, 1798 — Lakitelek: Tőserdő; Tabdi, det. Bellstedt. (HNHM). - The data published by Bellstedt and Merkl (1987) are based on misidentification (Angus 1992). Nevertheless, the species is expected to occur in Hungary. Helophorus liguricus Angus, 1970 — This species has Pontic distribution and according to Angus (1992) it is very common in Hungary. In the collection of the HNHM there are correctly identified specimens from 13 localities from Hungary. Probably the revision of the whole material of Helophorus in the collection of the HNHM may provide further locality data. Helophorus porculus Bedel, 1881 —Mecsek leg. Gebhardt (JPM). - Two specimens were found during the revision of the collection of the JPM. There is no date on the label attached to the pins, but these specimens are probaly from the 1940s. Confirmation of its occurrence as an established species is needed. The species is a pest of Brassica (Angus 1992). The Hungarian specimens are probably from agricultural import, because this species is distributed exclusively in Western Europe and in the Mediterranean. Helophorus asperatus Rey, 1885 — North, West and Central European species (Angus 1992). Only recently found at Orfű and Szentlőrinc in 1998 (Zsolt Gidó, personal communication). Cercyon hungaricus Endrődy-Younga, 1968 — Barcsi Ősborókás, 16.05.1979, leg. Horvatovich (JPM) (Gidó and Szél 1998) - The description of the species was published twice (Endrődy-Younga 1968 and 1969). Cryptopleurum subtile Sharp, 1884 — Darány, 03.05.1977, leg. Uherkovich; Középrigóc, 26.09.1978, light trap (JPM) (Gidó and Szél 1998); Aggtelek: Baradlakemping; Jósvafő: Gerge-bérc; Szin: Szelce-puszta, det. Szél (HNHM) (Szél 1999). Some specimens were found during the revision of the collection of the JPM and further specimens were collected in the Aggtelek National Park. Paracymus aeneus (Germar, 1824) — Pálfi (1958) reported the species from Bábtava, which is a peat bog at Csaroda. These data are based on misidentification, all specimens are in fact Enochrus affinis (Thunberg, 1794). Sterbetz (1988) mentioned one specimen found in the gut content of Recurvirostra avosetta. The specimen was identified by Z. Kaszab. However, there is not any voucher specimen from Hungary. Laccobius syriacus Guillebeau, 1896 —Zaláta, 14.06.1996, leg. Gidó (JPM) (Gidó and Szél 1998); Derenk (Szögliget) (HNHM) (Szél 1999). Endrődy-Younga (1967) mentioned this species as sporadic in Hungary. - It was not collected since the 1960s. These new data confirm the occurrence of this species in Hungary. Enochrus ater Kuwert, 1888 — Győr-Moson-Sopron m., Fertőrákos, light trap, 12.06.1980, leg. Mészáros Zoltán (HNHM). - Mediterranean species, its northernmost localities are in Austria and Hungary. There is a single voucher specimen in the collection of the HNHM. Enochrus fuscipennis Thomson, 1884 — Taxonomic status of this species is doubtful. Formerly it was considered as an "aberratio" and later a synonym of E. quadripunctatus. According to Hebauer and Klausnitzer (1998) E. fuscipennis is a valid species, and we treat it accordingly. Taxonomic revision of the genus Enochrus is under way by Stefan Schödl and we hope that this work will clarify the status of the species. (Stefan Schödl, personal communication).
