S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 60. (Budapest, 1999)

Collection. This species and the genus was described by several authors, and well established. There is no urgent nomenclatorial problem to designate a neotype, however, we propose here a more detailed description and drawing from a Hungarian specimen for comparison. The species is widely distributed in the Palaearctic Region (Kozár 1998). Most of the specimens from different places have no great morphological differences, only one specimen from Armenia (Dilizhan, 1600 m a.s.l., 28.09.1982, Leg. O. Merkl, No. 566), has different structure of the antennae. This question deserves more study, and further specimens from the Caucasus. N.floccosa is similar to N. kanayana, but differs by the interrupted wax plates on the dorsum and venter, and much bigger number of pores and setae near the coxal base, according to detailed description and drawing of Kawai and Takagi (1971) (type material not seen). Newsteadia kanayana Kawai et Takagi, 1971 This species was described from Japan. In our samples further specimens were found fromdifferent places: Korea D.P.R., Chagang Prov. Mt. Myohyang-san, 12.09.1980, Leg. L. Forró and Gy. Topái, No. 422. Korea D.P.R., Kangwon Prov. Mt. Kumgang-san, 18.09.1980, Leg Gy. Topái, No. 430. There are two specimens from Vietnam (CucPhuong: Bong, 15.12.1965, Leg. T. Pócs, No. 51. Vietnam, 1965, Leg. S. Mahunka, No. 550, which are also similar to N. kanayana, but differs by the high number of spines in the wax plates on the venter in the first case and a smaller number in the second case. To clarify the status of these specimens the collection of further material is necessary. Newsteadia sp. was found also in China (Yang 1982), but the species identity was not established. Key to the adult females of Newsteadia found in these regions 1. Labium longer than 300 pm nepalensis (Richard, 1990) Labium shorter than 300 pm 2 2. Antennái setae long, hair-like 3 Antennái seta spine-like 6 3. Antennae four-segmented 4 Antennae three-segmented 5 4. Antennae and legs are very long topali sp. n. 5. Antennae without subapical seta loebli sp. n. Antennae with subapical seta vietnamensis sp. n. 6. Abdominal venter with grouped discoidal pores Abdominal venter without grouped discoidal pores 7 8 7. Sensory and subapical setae absent koeroesicsomai sp. n. 8. Legs with sensory setae 9 Legs without sensory setae 10 9. Wax plates with short tubular ducts vasarhelyii sp. n. 10. Dorsal wax bands interrupted, with big groups of four-locular pores near coxa floccosa (De Geer, 1778) Dorsal wax bands not interrupted, without big groups of four-locular pores near coxa kanayana Kawai et Takagi, 1971
