ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LIX 1998 pp. 185-208 The papers (1956-1986) published by J. B. Szabó on Hymenoptera and his described taxa T. Megyaszai* and Cs. Thuróczy The papers (1956-1986) published by J. B. Szabó on Hymenoptera and his described taxa - An enumeration of all of the published papers of J. B. Szabó is presented with the current nomenclatural position of his taxa. Six new names, viz. Telenomus szabói nom. n., Trimorus pannonicus nom. n., Trimorus kateae nom. n., Basalys szabói nom. n., Trichopria mongolica nom. n. and Trichopria alfoeldica nom. n. are proposed for preoccupied names. János Barna Szabó is one of the authors publishing most extensively on the superfamily Proctotrupoidea s. 1. He contributed 76 papers dealing mainly with the taxonomy and ecology of the family Scelionidae. During the thirty-year period (1956-1986) of his work he proposed altogether 259 new generic and specific names. Some of his works are broadly known among taxonomists and have fundamental importance in the systematics of some taxa. The aim of the present paper is to collect all his papers in chronological order, to list the new taxa described by him in those articles and to gather the current nomenclatural information on the taxa proposed by him. Because of some misunderstandings and/or insufficient knowledge concerning his papers, this work should serve as a base for future taxonomical works dealing with his taxa. A thorough revision of Szabó's types by T. Megyaszai in the near future will clarify these confusions and will also present new nomenclatural changes. This paper has two main parts, i.e. a list of his papers with an enumeration of the new genera and species described therein and a table of his taxa with the current names used. The deadline of the literature survey was June, 1997, and although we strove for completeness, we are aware that there may still exist newer or less known publications which escaped our attention. Apart from the wide usage and recognition of his taxa, there are some confusion and contradictions in his work, which - in our opinion - were caused by the following facts and are best visible in the current classification of his taxa: Knowledge of the current literature. J. B. Szabó still frequently used Kieffer's historical works (Kieffer 1914, 1916, 1926), when more recent revisionary papers (e.g. * To whom correspondence should be addressed.
