S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 58. (Budapest, 1997)
Fore wing as long as body. Pterostigma (Fig. 32) four times as long as wide, issuing radial vein proximally from its middle, rl a bit longer than width of pterostigma, r2 1.5 times as long as cuqul and almost twice as long as cuqu2, r3 1.6 times as long as r2 and approaching tip of wing. Metasoma as long as mesosoma. First tergite (Fig. 33) 1.3 times as long as broad behind, from base to pair of spiracles clearly broadening and beyond spiracles subparallel sided, its scutum somewhat elongate in form. Second tergite shorter than third tergite, latter 1.6 times as long second tergite, suture between them distinct, bisinuate and smooth (Fig. 33). Tergites polished. In lateral view ovipositor sheath as long as hind tibia, posterior end of ovipositor as in Fig. 34. Head and mesosoma black, metasoma yellow. Palpi and antenna black. Tegula black. Ground colour of legs black with brownish tint on hind femur and tibia (decolourization?). Wings fumous, pterostigma brownish, veins light brownish (Fig. 32). Deviations from the lectotype female - Females. Body 6-7 mm long. Head in dorsal view transverse, 1.78-1.87 times as broad as long, eye 1.4-1.55 times as long as temple, latter rounded to strongly rounded (Fig. 35). Antenna with 47 flagellomeres. Mesosoma in lateral view 1.37-1.7 times as long as high. Hind femur (3-)3.5-4 times as long as broad. Pterostigma 3.7-4.1 times as long as wide and issuing radial vein distinctly as well as just proximally from its middle; r3 1.5-1.65 times as long as rl. First tergite either as long as broad or 1.25-1.35 times as long as broad at hind. Third tergite 1.58-1.66 times as long as second tergite. Metasoma yellow, sometimes tergites 1-2 entirely and tergites 6-7 medially black. Males. Body 4.5-7 mm long. Measurements of head, mesosoma, legs, wings and metasoma with similar deviations to those of females. Hind femur and base of hind tibia yellow, hind femur sometimes apically blackish. Distribution: Widely distributed in the Ponto-Mediterranean Sub-region with much exclavic occurrences in adjacent sub-regions. Host: Larinus turbinatus Gyllenhal (Col., Curculionidae); Agonopteryx ferulae Zeller (Lep., Oecophoridae): new host (in Italy). Within the subgenus Cyanopterobracon Tobias, 1957 Bracon illyricus Marshall is nearest to B. sabulosus Szépligeti and B. fallax Szépligeti considering their head and mesosoma covered with dark coloured hairs, less transverse head and smooth (i.e., uncrenulated) suture between tergites 2-3. The three species are distinguished by a few features: 1 (2) In dorsal view temple moderately rounded, eye distinctly, i.e., about one-fourth to one-third, longer than temple (Fig. 36). First tergite less long, about as long as broad to somewhat broader behind; suture between tergites 2-3 slightly widening medially (Fig. 37). Pro- and mesonotum, tegulae, epicnemium and metasoma reddish yellow, scutum sometimes black(ish). Femora and tibiae reddish yellow. 9: 4.5-6 mm, cT: 4-5 mm (= faï'sus Kokujev, 1913; oculatus Tobias, 1957 syn. n.; olgae Telenga, 1936) B. (C.) fallax Szépligeti, 1901 2 (1) In dorsal view temple rounded to rounded-receded (Figs 29, 35, 38). First tergite long, 1.2-1.3 times as long as broad behind; suture between tergites 2-3 not widening medially (Fig. 33).
