ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LVII 1996 pp. 261-264 A new genus and a new species of Selandriinae (Hymenoptera: Symphyta: Tenthredinidae) from India M. S. Saini and T. P. Saini A new genus and a new species of Selandriinae (Hymenoptera: Symphyta: Tenthredinidae) from India — Ridgea gen. n. based on Ridgea kalatopense sp. n. is described and illustrated from Himachal Pradesh, India. Though on the basis of some morphological features this new genus seems to be somewhat associated with Rohwerina Malaise, but there are several features which make it distinct from the related taxon. INTRODUCTION Prior to 1944, most of the scattered works on Indian Selandriinae were reviewed and compiled by Malaise (1944, 1947, 1961). He made numerous new additions, traced several synonymies and changed many combinations erroneously traced and worked out by the previous authors. Ultimately Malaise (1963) presented a comprehensive workable key to the world genera of Selandriinae (currently including the subfamilies of Selandriinae, Heterarthriinae, Allantinae, Nematinae and Blennocampinae). Then after a long gap of about 20 years or so Saini and his co-workers again started working on the Indian sawfly fauna and in 1985 they described a genus Hanumantus from Uttar Pradesh. With the addition of a genus described below, the number of Indian genera of Selandriinae scores to 12. The new genus is described, illustrated and compared with the related genera. Ridgea gen. n. Diagnostic features — Front wings with 2 radial and 3 cubital cells; basalis strongly curved and equally convergent with 1st recurrent vein; hind wings with 2 closed middle cells and anellan cell with a long petiole. Anal cell with almost perpendicular cross-vein. Antennae filiform, scape and pedicel almost equal; antennái segments 3 and 4 equal. Clypeus shallowly roundly emarginate; malar space almost linear; frontal area unlimited laterally, anteriorly there is a strong horizontal ridge stretching from one eye to the other. Supra-antennal pits distinct; postocellar area wider than long; head narrowing behind eyes. Inner margins of eyes subparallel in the middle. Epicnemium subconvex, separated from mesopleuron by a distinct furrow. Legs normal; metabasitarsus equal to the following tarsal joints combined; tarsal claw with a subapical tooth shorter than apical one, and placed at the middle of claw. Body impunctate. Type species — Ridgea kalatopense sp. n. Distribution — India, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh.
