ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LVII 1996 pp. 243-260 An updated list of the Chrysomelidae of Hungary and the adjoining parts of the Carpathian Basin (Coleoptera) I. Rozner An updated list of the Chrysomelidae of Hungary and the adjoining parts of the Carpathian Basin (Coleoptera) — A species list of the Chrysomelidae of the Carpathian Basin is given. Changes in the systematics are summarized. A total of 83 genera and 667 species-group taxa are known to occur in the region. In 1962, the late Dr. Zoltán Kaszab published the Chrysomelidae volume of the Fauna Hungáriáé, a series of identification books for the animals of Hungary and the adjoining parts of the Carpathian Basin (Kaszab 1962). Eighty genera, 628 species and subspecies and 829 infrasubspecific names ('varieties' and 'aberrations') were mentioned to occur in this region. In the last 33 years, revisions made in Europe on various genera and species groups have resulted in several new species of Chrysomelidae. Some of them were recorded also from our region. The faunistic research of the national parks and other nature protection areas of Hungary revealed further species new to the Hungarian fauna. The present paper is devoted to summarize the changes in the systematics and the fauna of the Hungarian Chrysomelidae since Kaszab's (1962) work. Infrasubspecific names are omitted. The main types of the changes are as follows: 1. New suprageneric taxa (e.g. Lamprosomatinae or Colaspini). 2. Splitting of genera based largely upon former subgenera (e.g. Crioceris — Lilioceris). 3. Introduction of new subgenera (e.g. Asiopus). 4. Correction of names of authors complemented with the year of description (e.g. Pachnephorus Redtenbacher — Pachnephorus Chevrolat, 1839). 5. Correction of species names (e.g. Cryptocephalus pallidifrons Gyllenhal — Cryptocephalus pallifrons Gyllenhal). 6. Recognition of species new to Hungary which were formerly expected to occur in our country. These species appeared in brackets in Kaszab's (1962) work. 7. Listing of recently described species which are still unknown from Hungary but expected to occur here (e.g. Longitarsus callidus Warchalowski, 1967). 8. Listing of recently described species which have already been recorded from Hungary. Pertinent literature sources are added (e.g. Longitarsus bombycinus Möhr, 1962 — Gruev, Tomov and Merkl 1987). First prize winner article of the 1994 competition of the Hungarian Entomological Society.
