S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 57. (Budapest, 1996)
Material examined: Holotype (HO-1 539-96): Malagasy Republic, Central E Madagascar. Degraded montane rain forest on Mt. Ambatokirijy at the S edge of Andasibe (Perinet) Forest Reserve, at 950-1000 m alt. 18°57'15"S, 48°26'20"E, 3. Oct. 1994. Leg. T. Pócs. Remarks: The new taxon is distinguished from all other congeners by its peculiar pteromorphae, this form was unknown in this genus. Etymology: The species is named after the characteristic form of the pteromorphae. Pseudopirnodus madegassus sp. n. Measurements — Length of body: 454 urn, width of body: 225 urn. Integument: Light yellow species. No sculpture on the whole body surface. All legs smooth. Prodorsum: Rostrum without apex, wide, nearly straight. Lamellae short, thin, lamellar cusps small. True prelamellae absent, rostral setae arising on small tubercles. Lamellar, rostral and interlamellar setae setiform, spiculate. Interlamellar setae much longer than the lamellar ones, rostral setae shortest of all (Fig. 26). Bothridium free in dorsal aspect, sensillus spiculate. Notogaster: Dorsosejugal suture concave, slightly undulate. Pteromorphae absent (Fig. 26). Ten pairs of normal, thin and fine notogastral setae present. Lyrifissures im well observable in front of the insertion of setae Ip. Four pairs of small sacculi present. Lateral part of prodorsum: Pedotecta 1 and 2-3 small. An unclear tubular-system, connected with the acetabula (Fig. 29). Gnathosoma: Palpal tarsus short and strongly curved. Eupathidia short, straight, simple. Ventral regions (Fig. 28): All part of this region smooth. Apodemes thin, their pattern typical for the genus. Epimeral setal formula: 3-1-2-2. Setae 3c and 4c absent. Anogenital setal formula: 1-1-2-3. Genital and aggenital setae short, anal and adanal ones longest of the setae of the body. Lyrifissures iad located near the anterior corner of the anal aperture. Legs: All legs tridactylous, weakly heterodactylous. Tarsi compressed longitudinally. Solenidia çi and ç 2 of tibia I (Fig. 27) arising very near the anterior margin, near each other. Material examined: Holotype (HO-1 541-96): Malagasy Republic, Central E Madagascar. Degraded montane rain forest on Mt. Ambatokirijy at the S edge of Andasibe (Perinet) Forest Reserve, at 950-1000 m alt. 18°57'15"S, 48°26'20"E, 3. Oct. 1994. Leg. T. Pócs. Remarks: On the basis of the habitus but primarily on the anogenital setal formula, the new species is well classified in the genus Pseudopirnodus Baranek, 1985. This genus was so far monotypic, the type species being described from North America. The new species is well distinguished from it by the form of the rostrum and the length of the notogastral setae. Etymology: The species is named after its collecting locality. Acknowledgements — I am indebted to Prof. Dr. Roy A.
