S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 57. (Budapest, 1996)

Notogaster: Shoulder part well protruding anteriorly and laterally, with a small hollow laterally (Fig. 11). Excepting this part the polygonal pattern covers the whole surface. Fourteen pairs of phylliform notogastral setae present, no setae in humeral position. All setae with two veins, which rise from the surface. They resemble the interlamellar setae, but the latter slightly larger and their distal end more elongated, with an acute tip. Lateral part of prodorsum: Tutorium well developed, with some tubercles on its distal margin. Pedotecta 1 large, pedotecta 2-3 waved (Fig. 13). Ventral regions: Coxisternal region without characteristic sculpture, nearly smooth. Apodemes and borders well observable, sejugal ones compose a round formation medially, like a well framed foramen. Epimeral setae mostly long, simple, setiform, but setae la, lc, 2a and 3a minute, hardly observable. On the ventral plate a pair of strong longitudinal crests present. Anogenital setal formula: 4-1-2-3. Genital, aggenital and anal setae simple, setiform, conspicuously long (Fig. 12), adanal setae narrowly phylliform, willow-leaf-shaped. Adanal lyrifissures were not observable. Legs: The size of the legs typical for the family. Tibia of leg II (Fig. 17) strongly narrowed behind the solenidium. Femora of leg III and IV (Fig. 16) with strong blade like formation ventrally. Lateral setae (/") of genua I—IV and femora I (Fig. 15) and II also phylliform. Unguinal setae (u) of tarsi I (Fig. 14) — IV dilated basally with a long spiniform distal part. Material examined: Holotype (HO-l 534-1996): Malagasy Republic. Central E Madagascar. Degraded montane rain forest on Mt. Ambatokirijy at the S edge of Andasibe (Perinet) Forest Reserve, at 950-1000 m alt. 18°57'15"S, 48°26'20"E, 3. Oct. 1994. Leg. Dr. T. Pócs. 1 paratype from the same sample. Holotype: HNHM, paratype: MHNG. Remarks: On the basis of the absence of prodorsal or notogastral elevation, and the form and position of the prodorsal and notogastral setae the new species well classified into the genus Austrocarabodes Hammer, 1966. But the dilated, widely phylliform notogastral setae and the sculpture of the notogaster indicate relations with the species of Yoshiobodes Mahunka, 1986. The characteristic foramen-like formation of the sejugal apodemes was heretofore unknown in this genus. Therefore, the new species is well distinguishable from all similar species. Etymology: Named after the peculiar characters heretofore unknown for this genus. Leptoppia benyovszkyi sp. n. Measurements — Length of body: 410 pm, width of body: 198 pm. Prodorsum: Rostral apex clearly, but not deeply concave medially. Prodorsal surface with characteristic structure and sculpture, a pair of weak, uncertain costula, a transverse band basally between the bothridia, two pairs of weak sigillae in the interbothridial, and 3-4 pairs similar ones along the lateral margin well visible (Fig. 18). A lateral crest also observable, this part also pustulate. All pairs of prodorsal setae short, essentially no difference among their length. Rostral and interlamellar setae finely ciliate, lamellar ones thicker than the preceding ones and spinulose. Sensillus asymmetrically dilate, pectinate, with 6-7 long branches. Notogaster: Shoulder part of the notogaster well developed. Ten pairs of notogastral setae present, all setae short, setae c 2 well visible, only slightly shorter than the others. Lyrifissures im located behind setae Ip.
