356 Gy, Sziráki In the genus Chrysopa the entoprocessus is a characteristic part of the male genitalia. However it is usually mentioned only in brief, and is drawn rather sketchily. In the case of C. altaica (Fig. 7) its distal end is strongly curved upwards and rather narrow in lateral view, while in C. commata (Fig. 10) it is wide, and more or less bent downward. (Though, in the latter case it is rather variable.) In dorsal view the blunt distal end of the entoprocessus of C. altaica is directed backwards (Fig. 8), while in the case of C. commata it turns outwards (Fig. 11). Moreover, the visible internal structure of this organ is also different one in the two species. Hypandrium internum is usually a rather weakly chitinized structure, and its shape may almost be the same even in quite different species. On the other hand, in some cases there are differences between some closely related species. In the case of C. altaica this organ (Fig. 9) is narrow (ratio of length/width is about 5:3) while in C. commata (Fig. 12) relatively wide (ratio oflength/width is about 1:1). In the family Chrysopidae the spermatheca is a frequently investigated part of the female genitalia, and in the case of C. altaica it was correctly described and figured in the original description of the species. The comparison of the paratypes of the two species gave two clear cut differences. In C. altaica the vela is very broad, large and the ventral impression moderately broad, but high (Holzel 1967, Fig. 6). In C. commata the vela is short and narrow, and the ventral impression very broad, widely rounded (Figs 13-14). ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I would like to express my thanks to Dr Kurt K. Günther (Berlin) for the kind lending of the type material of Chrysopa altaica. 5 6 Figs 1-6.
