of scutum often ochre-brown. Upper part of frontoclypeus reddish-ochre. Large patches below antennae continued under the eyes and to the margins of frontoclypeus and anteclypeus, black (Fig. 811). Sometimes sides of frontoclypeus blackish or brownish-black ventrally but the most often sides of frontoclypeus and lorae brown; remaining parts of frontoclypeus yellowish; sides of face whitish. In light specimens often only centre of pronotum brown, scutum and basal triangles ochre and whole scutellum ivory. Fore wing light beige. In light specimens costal margin, at least proximal part of wax-field and longitudinal veins (marked with transverse dashes in Figs 800-802), red; distal parts of cup, cua and subterminal parts of m (sometimes r), brownish; terminal parts of 2nd and 3rd apical cells infuscated (brownish to brown marked with oblique dashes in Figs 800-802). In dark specimens distinct broad brown oblique fascia between distal end of wax-field and apex of clavus and other additional infuscations (Fig. 802). Length M 2.70-3.20, F 2.65-3.00 mm. Comparison. Male genitalia and basal abdominal apodemes of male almost the same as in S. bifasciata Dwor. except regularly horn-shape process at dorsal apodeme of penis (Fig. 799). In S. bifasciata the process (in side view) is straight and almost equally broad on its whole length. The new species the most resembles S. bifasciata externally too, differing by the cross-shape red patch on vertex accompanied with large blackish patches, narrow fore wing of male, lighter colours and brighter red pattern, wax-field always at least partly red. In S. bifasciata red pattern on vertex is limited to its sides and midline and blackish patches are very small. Shamala (s. str.) grandis Dwor. 1 M, 2 F, Sikkim, Rumtek, 1700 m, lamp domes, 1990,1. Dworakowska (in SMTD, BMNH and NMNH). Vertex yellowish, produced in the midline; an apical patch and irregularly shaped medial streak (Fig. 819), brown. Pronotum yellowish-white at sides, brown centrally. Scutum and scutellum yellowish, slightly infuscated. Fore wing yellowish, with brown pattern as in Fig. 821. Apical cells smoky, darker apicad, veins yellowish. In female the brown pattern on vertex less developed than in male; also usually there is only an interrupted brown streak at commissural margin of clavus and a part od wax-field brownish instead a complete fascia of the male (Fig. 821) but usually there is a brown streak in the
