one seta at the posterior angle. The length of accessory setae 22-30 pm and single seta 50-60 pm. Segments VI-VII bear two accessory seta with the length of 33 pm and two setae with the length of 68-70 pm at the posterior angle. Segment VIII bears three setae at the posterior angle with 71, 79, 50 pm and three accessory setae with 38, 40, 31 pm. Segment IX bears (from the middle) 126, 63, 63 pm long setae at the hind margin and 63, 80, 138 pm long accassory setae. On segment X the lengths of setae are 120, 126,63,63 pm. Segment XI bears three pairs of fine setae with the length of 63, 28, 35 pm. The anterior margin of sternites 2-7 with one conspicuous dark transverse band on the fore margin. Sternites 2-6 bear three pairs of setae with the length of 50-58, 50-70, 25-23 pm, sternite 7 bears six setae with the length of 30, 35, 27, 31, 50, 31; sternite 8 bears 78, 94, 37 pm long setae and segment 9 bears three setae with the length of 31, 88, 44 pm. Male: 1040 pm long. The principal characters - the chaetotaxy of head, thorax, wings and legs - as in the female. Sternites 2-8 without dark transverse band on the fore margin. Distinction This species differs from Melanthrips areolatus Priesner by the yellowish-white body and antennae, colourless wings and by the presence of preapical setae of the hind tibia. Material studied-Holotype: Algeria, Jdiouia wil. Relizane. Paratypes: 6 9 and 4 <? Jdiouia wil. Relizane. All type specimens were collected by Mrs. Augusta Rozner on the 11th May, 1986. Jaroslav Pelikán, Brno and 2 paratypes in the Forschungsinstitut Senckenberg, Frankfurt am Main.
