FOLIA E N T O M O L O G I C A HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LIV 1993 p. 51-56 Mites extracted from uprooted banana suckers (Acari: Anoetidae) By S. A. Eraky and N. I. Shoker (Received March 1, 1993) Mites extracted from uprooted banana suckers (Acari: Anoetidae). - The result of taxonomic examination concerning the mite fauna living on uprooted banana suckers infested with Pentalonianigionervosa (Aphididae) is given. Three new species (Histiostoma egyptiacum sp. n., Histiostoma bananai sp. n. and Hormosianoetus mohunkat sp. n.) are described hereunder. Taxonomic examination was carried out in a comparatively desert agricultural farm (El-Ghoraieb Farm, about 15 km from Assiut city, upper Egypt). The uprooted banana suckers were collected monthly from the desert area. Mites ihabiting the uprooted banana sucker were isolated and identified. Three new species were recorded and morphologically described. Histiostoma egyptiacum sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 156-162 pm, breadth: 115-131 urn. Dorsal side (Fig. 1): Propodosoma nearly triangular, prodorsum anteriorly and laterally joining the surface of propodosoma. Both pairs of prodorsal setae comparatively short, simple but slightly longer than the hyseterosomatic hairs. Inner pair of prodorsal setae originating far anteriorly from the outer ones. Surface of propodosoma ornamented by scattered granules. Dorsosejugal region normal, ornamented by striation. Hysterosoma wide and gradually narrow posteriorly, its surface covered with characteristical, elongated alveoli laterally and scattered alveoli and maculae medially. Notogaster with one pair of small rhomboidal pore-like structure placed anterolaterally. Ventral side (Fig. 2): Infracapitulum of gnathosoma short, oblong and wide posteriorly, palpi scarcely observable, solenidia comparatively long. Apodemes strongly chitinized, anterior sternal apodeme short, ending free, far from sejugal apodemes. Apodemes 2 hardly touching with the straight (!) sejugal apodemes. Latter slightly arched medially and laterally straight with three teeth on each side. Posterior sternal apodeme fused with sejugal ones. Epimeres 1, 3 and 4 bearing well-developed suckers each, slightly smaller on epimeres 1. Adhering plate normally developed originating not far from the posterior margin of the hysterosoma. Hysterosoma with dentition on lateral margins. Legs: All legs with normal, small claws, adhering hair of legs I (Fig. 3) trumpet-shaped. Terminal hairs of legs II much longer on legs IV. Group of solenidia of legs I with 3 members (Fig. 7) toi short, arcuate, comaparatively as long as (pi , much thinner, q> 2conspicuously short, shorter than hallf the length of tarsus 1. 91 and 92 arising slightly far from each other. Solenidia 0)i of legs II longer and thicker than 91 (Fig. 4). Type material: Holotype: Assiut, Egypt: 15.07.1992. Uprooted banana suckers, leg. S.A. Eraky. 7 paratypes: from the same sample. Holotype and 3 paratypes deposited in Plant
