Status of the natural environment, along with the removal of the whole agricultural population of the island. There are still parts, mostly karstic hills and valleys between them, with primary vegetation, forests abounding in rich under-growth. No Hungarian zoologist visited the island before. A rather dry weather prevailed, most of the streams dried out and except the deep and shady valleys and sometimes due to the morning moisture, everything seemed dry during our short trip there. The Bac Thai province trip was unfortunately short. Our main station was located at Quang Chu village in a partly destroyed, but partly much less disturbed primary forest area with a permanent stream abounding in water, an affluent of the Song Cau river. Prior to our visit, no Hungarian zoologists explored the site, however, we were told about a Soviet parasitologist's expedition there. Due to our limited time, we could not reach the higher elevations of that very promising place. Despite of the dry weather conditions, the activity of night flying insects was high at the time of collectings.
