Ground colour of head and mesosoma black, metasoma dark brown. Orbit and temple rusty brown, palpi and mandible brownish. Antenna brown, scape and pedicel faint rusty. Mesonotum reddish yellow, notaulices black. Scutellum and anterior margin of metanotum also reddish yellow., Mesopleuron medio-posteriorly weakly dark rusty. Legs brown to light brown, hind coxa blackish. First tergite black, its hind middle faint brownish. Wings hyaline, petrostigma straw yellow, veins yellowish; distal end of n. med, d and nervulus darkening. Description of the paratypes (2^ + 4 0*0*) - Similar to the holotype. Females: Body 4. 3-4. 8 mm long, fore wing 4. 1-4. 3 mm long. Pterostigma 3. 2 times as long as wide (2 o^»); rl half as long as width of pterostigma and somewhat longer than r2 (1 <j>), or rl slightly shorter than r2, i.e. Cu2 above unusually wide (1 oj (Figs 4-5). First tergite 1.5-1.73 times as long as broad at hind, its surface medially weakly (1 <j>, Fig. 8) or entirely and distinctly striated (1 <j>). Orbit and temple rusty brown (1 (j>) or reddish yellow (1 <j>). Notaulices not black. Mesopleuron medially rusty. Tergites rather blackish brown, last two (1 c<) or three (1 <j>) tergites dark brown to brown. - Males: Body 4. 2-4. 8 mm long, fore wing 4-4. 5 mm long. Antenna about as long as body, with 27 (2 66) and 28 joints (2 66). First flagellar joint 2.57-2.6 times as long as broad apically, penultimate joint 1.27-1.4 times as long as broad. Pterostigma 2.9 times as long as wide, rl somewhat less than half as long as width of pterostigma and slightly shorter than r2. First tergite (Fig. 9) less broadening beyond spiracles, 1. 55-1. 88 times as long as broad at hind, its entire surface with distinct longitudinal striation. Head and mesosoma fully black, first tergite black, further tergites blackish brown to brown (2 66) or dark brown to light brown (2 66). Antenna blackish (3 66). N. bas. dark yellow. Host unknown. Type material: Holotype <j>: Greenland ^Denmark), Scoresbysund, 3 September 1985, leg. D. Elin. - 2 and 4 66 paratypes: same locality as for holotype, 5 July3 September 1985, leg. D. Elin. - Holotype fo_* and paratypes fl j + 3 66) are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest; Hym. Typ. The new species, Meteorus arcticus sp. n., runs to M. abdominator (Nees, 1812) fEurope, USSR* with the help of Huddleston's key (1980), and furthermore, it seems related to the species as M. rubens var. leviventrls (Wesmael, 1835) (Palaearctic Region) as well as M. proxlmus (Cresson, 1872) (Nearctic Region*. The three species are distinguished with the following key: 1 (4) Pair of dorsal pits of first tergite present fFigs 7-9, 12). Tarsal claws simple, i.e. without a basal lobe or tubercle (Fig. 6). 2 (3) Pair of dorsal pits weak and shallow (Figs 7-9). First tergite (Figs 7-9) strongly broadening beyond spiracles, 1. 3-1. 7 times (<j><j>* and 1. 7-1. 8 times (66) as long as broad at hind, spiracles distinctly protruding from outline of tergite; (middle) surface of tergite with fine (ml or entire surface with distinct (66) and longitudinal striation, glistening. Temple in dorsal view constricted (Fig. 1). Ventral borders of first tergite joined about at its anterior third (Fig. 10). Orbit + temple rusty brown, mesonotum reddish yellow (oo* or black(ish) (66), hind coxa blackish, second tergite brownish black. Wings hyaline, pterostigma straw yellow. ^6: 4-4.8 mm. - Greenland (Denmark) M. arcticus sp. n. 3 (21 Pair of dorsal pits distinct and deep (Fig. 12). First tergite (Fig. 12) less strongly broadening beyond spiracles, (1. 6-)l. 8-1.9 times (ro* and 1.6-2 times (66) as long as broad at hind, spiracles feebly protruding from outline of tergite; surface of tergite with more or less strong longitudinal striation, rather subshiny. Temple in dorsal view rounded (Fig. 11). Ventral borders of first tergite not joined, a small gap remaining between them ÍFig. 13*. Orbit + temple and mesonotum black(ish) ($6), hind coxa * reddish yellow, second tergite reddish yellow. Wings more or less infumate, pterostigma brown to dark brown, basally with a more or less distinct yellow fish* small spot. <j>0: 3.5-6, usually 4-5.5 mm. - Palaearctic Region •. M. abdominator fNees, 1812) 4 fl) Pair of dorsal pits absent ÍFig. 16). Tarsal claws with small lobe or swollen basally ÍFig. 15). Ventral borders of first tergite joined about its anterior third (cf. Fig. 10).
